I respect your POV here, but I do not understand how you can have this evaluation of Connor. The stats are what they are. He plays 30+ mpg and averages 3 ppg and can't shoot or drive which allows his man to sag off and help elsewhere. He is an 'ok' defender but no more. He is not a good ft shooter, so having the ball in his hands late in games is not optimal and back to my earlier point, the team is 4 on 5 offensively with him on the floor. Has any aspect of his game improved? I don't think so.It's more than just shooting free throws. Connor makes good decisions. He is like having a coach on the floor. I haven't seen enough of the young guards to know how they would close out a game. The crap about Connor playing because his dad is coach is BS IMO. He played hurt this past year, and was one of the most valuable players the year before.
Is he a heady, gritty, tough-nosed team guy? 100% yes. Does that translate to starting and playing a lot of minutes on team that will be offensively challenged next year? Going back a year on this... Connor had some nice moments when he was able to post his guy up, survey the floor and look for guys coming off screens. He is a high-level distributor of the ball, but isn't a high-level ball handler, driver, scorer. Put him in situations where he can hit cutters, shoot his step back or take a couple dribbles + ball fake and use his strength to finish in close. This is where I think he would be best utilized. Parking him outside the 3-point line doesn't fit with his game IMO.
