Maybe NEITHER should have guns in public. How is "Protecting your family from home invasion" at all similar to shooting people at will in a movie theatre. There should be NO guns allowed in public. If you're really looking to protect your family and home, keep the gun at HOME.

One... It's never gotten smoked. Why? Because a gun and a car are two things that cannot kill people without being operated by humans. If they just sat there without anyone or thing touching them, they can literally not do any harm to anyone or any thing.
Two... The only real difference in this situation vs a drunk driver is the car and the gun.

This totally ignores the fact that a car isn't manufactured to kill. In fact great strides are taken to engineer it not to kill. The opposite is true of guns. It also totally ignores the fact cars are far more regulated than guns. Better be careful what you wish for if you want to start treating guns like cars.
What they were manufactured for has zero bearing on the argument. There are thousands of things that are not manufactured to kill, but they still kill.
This argument that cars weren't manufactured to kill, does not negate the fact that guns and cars in and of themselves cannot kill without human interacting. They literally can't do anything with being operated by a human. Why are you denying this?
What do the following have in common? Speed limits, OWI, rape, stealing, heroin, assault, robbery, oh and guns? There are laws for all of them and there people that break those laws every day.

Dude didn't turn himself in. He called his dad and lied about what happened (according to witnesses) and then his dad notified the police who took him in with no issues. Not like walked into the station saying, "sorry... it was me."
I was wondering about this. Is simply carrying a concealed weapon while intoxicated illegal or do you have to be handling it or doing something with it while intoxicated for it to be illegal? Also, do you know that the enhanced penalty is or if you lose your right to carry or own a firearm if you are convicted of handling a firearm while intoxicated?
Also, as far as the story goes, the term "turned himself in" seems a little loose here. Sounds like he told his dad a different story and his dad turned him in and the cops came and arrested him.
Not an expert, but I believe concealed carry while under the influence is illegal, too. No idea what the penalties are.

I think the important part about what he told his father was that he shot someone. How it happened doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Whether he was fumbling with the gun or dropped it, it's pretty clear it was an accident.
