Religious discrimination anyone?:

In the market for a gun? An East Tennessee store is offering a deal, as long as you're a Christian. The owner of Frontier Firearms says the mass shooting in Oregon prompted the sale.

"If Christians are going to be targeted, we need to protect ourselves," said Brant Williams, Owner of Frontier Firearms. "The best way to protect yourself is with the best weapon available, and that happens to be a handgun."

Gun store owner Brant Williams is taking a state leader's suggestion. Last week after the tragic shootings in Oregon, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey encouraged Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit.

"Ron Ramsey had a good point," said Williams. "Christians need to arm up."

He's offering 5% off any new handgun if you say you're a Christian.

"I don't think it's a matter or proving or disapproving," said Williams. "It's a matter of saying the words 'I'm a Christian' and you get the discount."

Williams said this is important because people are targeted for their beliefs. he doesn't want to hide his faith.

"We can stand up and not worry about being shot for our beliefs, or maybe we can stand up and shoot back," said Williams.

Cameron Brooks is the Chairman of the Knox County Democratic Party.

"Anyone who is not Christian and in our society is excluded," said Brooks. "I think that's wrong. It turns people away from Christianity."

He supports the Second Amendment, but doesn't think guns are the answer.

"It's not about owning a gun and retaliation and promoting more violence in our society," said Brooks. "It's about promoting peace."

"I'd like to let Christians know there are businesses out there, even though the law likes to silence us and those that oppose us like to silence us, but we won't be silenced," said Williams.

I'm not a religious person and yet I have no problem with this. If he wants to give out this discount than it should be his right.

Why does this bother you?

Yea, a private business giving a discount based on...anything. I'm ok with it. They are responsible to make a business decision as to whether or not that will help or hurt their business. If they do something that can be deemed illegal, well... that's a poor business decision.

It's like anything, more than likely they'll give the discount to anyone who asks.

According to the article, people just have to say "I'm a christian" and it gets them 5%. That's no different than saying "I'm a SiriusXM subscriber" so give me 5% off my proflowers.com order. There's no need to prove anything. Nothing wrong here. It did get him some publicity though, and that's got to be good for him.

A bar once gave me a free beer on St. Patrick's Day for having an Irish last name.

I have been recommending to my lady friends that women should start a chain of gun shops aimed at arming women. Perhaps with some part of profits going to support Planned Parenthood.

My argument has been that if women want better gun control, they need to take a leaf from the Tea Party playbook and start packing serious heat. Especially at political rallies.

Ditto for blacks and Hispanics. Nothing will make the white men in office more inclined to pass stricter gun laws than seeing women, blacks and Hispanics walking around with AR15s.

Needless to say, I find discounting for Christians a ploy that makes things worse - reinforcing the totally idiotic "Christians are victims" meme and likely to put even more guns into the hands of more delusional people. But as a business strategy, it makes good sense.

What would be fun is if a whole lot of rough-looking Muslims or atheists or Satanists started picketing the business. How long would he stick with it if it started costing him business? Is he doing this out of religious conviction or for profit?

I want to see what happens when Bobby Jindal tries to get the discount. He's Christian. I used to work with a man of Indian (dots not feathers) descent who was a Christian. I wonder if this guy would give them the discount? I assume not because there is no way to verify your religious denomination and they we're pretty brown looking.

Is there such a thing as "rough/tough looking atheists?"

I don't think this sort of thing out front of a store is going to intimidate anyone.

I wonder how many takers a gun store would have if they offered a huge discount on guns for people who would sign an oath renouncing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Or how about a free gun for any who will sign a bill of sale for their soul.

How many atheists and others are convinced enough that souls are imaginary constructs to scoff at the risk in exchange for a nice new gun.

Sounds like a great advertising campaign that would tap into a new market segment.

You should be in the gun sales business.

You would dominate.

I have no problems with that. I have no problems with businesses giving senior discounts, or military discounts, or anything of the like.
Apparently a lot of of us will cut more slack on discrimination for profit than on discrimination for God.

The homophobes have clearly missed out on this strategy. Instead of refusing to serve gays, they should just double their prices and then give straights a 50% discount.

First of all how does he determine someone is a Christian. You can't just look at someone and determine their religious beliefs.

Secondly Christians who are serious about their faith need to "arm up" I don't remember the bible verse that says "Trust in the Lord and thine Glock 9"

"Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."

In this case they just have to say they are Christians to get the discount. And it isn't much of a discount. More a publicity stunt.

Even if he required a signed statement accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, would that stop atheists? We all know that without God there is no morality, so what would keep them from lying to get the discount?

5% doesn't cut into their profits, and the owner is getting tremendous free advertising. That's what this is about.

It's pretty disgusting that gun stores are using this mass murder to pump up their sales.

Tennessee is making an admirable effort to take Florida's spot for top crazy state. Kind of them to volunteer to take sd of the heat off.

Those folk sure look like they worship supernatural crap. I think they belong to your camp.

So if you're buying something for $500, and can get $25 off, you're going to scoff at it?

Oh I'm sure the gun toting christians will be salivating over saving that 5%. I'm just saying that if my normal MSRP includes a 40% markup, 5% is nothing compared to the benefit of getting your braindead customers worked up into a lather over it.
