Guyton...my goodness....

Two other awesome plays. Fell to her bum but kept her dribble going (reminded me of Harlem Globetrotter great, Curly Neal). The behind the back dribble when JuJu tried to steal, very impressive. Off day shooting the three but she has skillz. Anxious to see her develop.

That’s at least twice she started dribbling while on her knees or backside, yesterday. She’s special. The last person I saw improve this much during a season was last year in the WNBA. CC started solid and got better and better all year long, that’s what this girl is doing.

It’s interesting really, while going 1-9 & 3 TOs. She still had a pretty impressive game in my opinion. In fact between her and Kylie, who didn’t score at all. I think they were the two next most important players in the win.

Seriously and I’m not trying to be a dick or even take a thinly veiled jab here…seriously. But I don’t understand the “this player, should play more” and/or this player should play less narrative from anyone outside practice. There are just so many variables to how these women play together, game flow, chemistry, etc…things that even the most knowledgeable and aware fan just don’t see.

The whole team did a nice job on JuJu but Kylie and AG in particular played her great. And Kylie had 4 BIG Asts!!!

Wow…and Holy shit, I just looked at the box score closer and I see Afolter Had another ho hum, 9 rebound 11 point.(8-10 FTs) FIVE STEAL game!!!

Lots of folks in here been wanting those Srs playing less ball. Again not a jab, it ought to be an indicator no matter how mad we are or what we think we know… We don’t.🤷‍♂️

Fabulous. Not bad for a kid. ;)

The way Iowa jumped on USC reminded me of the Iowa football game WAY back in 1985 when Chuck Long paced the Hawkeyes to a 35-0 lead over a top 20 Illinois team--after ONE quarter. But Illinois never came back, and Iowa won 59-0. But the first quarter then and the first quarter yesterday are the kinds of near-perfect performances that no one anywhere sees very often. Words cannot do justice to what those young women did yesterday in that first quarter, and then showing the courage to bounce back and retake the game at the end.

Incredible. Amazing. Fantastic. One for the ages.

Some excellent observations. Kylie was fabulous defending JuJu, and Kylie was the victim of some just ridiculous foul calls while JuJu and other USC players got away with lots of hacking and shoving and pushing off.

And Guyton, as you say, despite the off night shooting, did a terrific job--as a freshman. And Syd was the player we saw at the end of last season. She, like her teammates, played with her hair on fire and turned in a brilliant peformance.

Yeah, was watching Affolter play defense on replay. Just pushing position on the bigger players she was guarding. Impressive effort--probably not easily replaced.

A shame Guyton missed on her shots yesterday, but lots of good looks, good decisions.

Winning cures everything.

Jan had an interesting comment a few weeks ago on her weekly show about the data they use from both practice and games about how different lineups perform together. She said that fans would be shocked if they knew what lineups were identified as best performers from this data. Certainly the data might have changed in the past few weeks, but it is a clear statement that we have very limited data to inform us about the lineup and playing time decisions.

I’m not surprised, yet we have some super shitty cats that think they “know” more than the “data” & coach & they do not like being told that right @MikeyHawk @83Hawk

Sports is all about emotion. What do you expect.

Well… I guess I’ll tell you like this. In society are all expected to be accountable for our actions. And we all have “emotions“… If you’re incapable of controlling yours to the point that every single outcome that doesn’t go your way, you act like an ass, you probably ought to not get to watch sports… Just saying.

Sure, as hell don't need to be told how to react and respond.

He's acting like House.

Guyton reminds me a little bit of Joe T. Out of control at times, but brings in good D, high energy, athleticism, and overall positive minutes whenever she's in. But the comparison stops there...... she has a better shot, vision, feet, ball handling, and I feel (in a very short time) will outgrow those poor passes. It's awesome to see her get more minutes and can't wait to watch her in more B10 games!

I did think that they left her in too long trying to guard Juju. She was able to just shoot over Guyton and that's when the USC run took off. Feuerbach didn't allow those shots off the dribble and did an awesome keeping her in check. Her defense on the best player in the nation was overlooked (I thought!)

She played great defense. Juju got half her points from the free throw line, and it wasn't because of Guyton.
She guarded one of the best players in the country and JuJu guarded her a lot as well. It can only give her added confidence going forward. She is a good one and can compete against anyone.
Some people like to complain about every little negative thing and not see the positives. I'm sure he wasn't at the game to see her play and I'm not even sure he watched on tv.

If I had to guess, I think three of her shots on the stat line were slim-chance throws trying to beat the shot clock. That's a team miss, and while I hope they can avoid this, it can skew the read on a stat line.

That was a freshman playing point against a team of All-Americans. She had a good game.
