Genesis Shootout at Augustana College, always a good time.
Moline v. Pleasant Valley was the headline game last night. Moline won 54-43 but PV was very scrappy.
Overall impression is that both look to be excellent additions. Harding as one would expect from a guard is more college basketball ready. Like a lot of big guys, Freeman relies on his sheer size dominance against high school dudes and will need some strength work to play in B10.
Harding: He is slight but so fun to watch. His game has a maturity about it, he is super fluid and always in control. Not sure I’ve seen a better passer at the high school level, he has a full arsenal of passes: no-look bullets, easy to handle lobs, quick bounce passes that get right where they need to on time. Definitely a control game and pass-first PG, but he can score when he needs to and has a quick release on 3. He had at least 4 absolute no-look dimes that made the entire crowd “Ooooh!” I also like that he is a silent assassin, no trash talk, no whining, just goes about his business — reminds me of Keegan Murray’s demeanor, he knows he’s the best player on the floor and let’s his game do the talking. He will need to hit weights hard, but I’m excited to see him against Big 10 competition.
Freeman: He is tall and nimble, looks a bit bouncier than Mulvey, but didn’t demonstrate great hops. He has solid post footwork, but needs to improve his finishing. Missed about 4 bunnies. I feel he could be stronger and more assertive at the rim, seems to want to just lay everything in gently instead of taking it strong. Had like 6 blocks, but PV isn’t big. His best skill currently seems to be being a willing and accurate passer. He had at least 5 very nice assists from the post (PV doubled or triple teamed him every time he got ball in post so the passing was the right play and he did it well)
Overall, I think these guys are both going to be nice future Big 10 players.
