Hailey LOL Townhall

This woman is braindead. How bad has the GOP become that she looks in anyway ready to run the country? It's only because the bar has been so lowered on the right that she at all looks viable.
She's not braindead. She's surcombing to pressure to uphold the America is a good point of view republicans are supposed to adhere to while also not giving the libs anything they want. (Which she did anyway - that might be the braindead part)

Tapper directly asks her about slavery and she whitewashes the whole history of slavery as merely a momentary confusion at the time.

I'm sorry, but slavery existed in America ever since it's inception when the settlers first came over hundreds of years before we officially became the United States. We enslaved black people, Chinese people, and any other group we could get our hands on.

And even after slavery was abolished the next hundred years saw nothing but rampant discrimination in employment, use of schools, facilities, and even churches. It wasn't until very recently in our countries history that we even officially outlawed racist discrimination.

Hundreds of years of slavery and accepted discrimination has to be acknowledged. It sickens me that a presidential candidate in 2024 can't do so.

Nikki, like Vivek, are pecan sandies. Brown on the outside, wanna be whites on the inside. This derangement syndrome makes them forget that they are still brown second class coolies that once carried the luggage of white men.

Pathetic and sad people.

I've experienced plenty of racism in my life and although I have friends from all races, it's a small list. The only thing one can say is that white people dominated history for a long time. Maybe in the future you'll become our bitches. Haha.

Slaves built our railroads, our agricultural system, and even the White House itself. She is either braindead for not understanding this, or worse, racist herself for excusing the hundreds of years of pain and suffering that slaves were inflicted upon.

It’s just such a dumb position to take. I understand the political pressure from morans, but it’s just so easy to say, that was wrong, we won’t do that again.
Well yeah of course they overdue it and end up taking on stupid arguing points.

What they wouldn't accept here is the proposition that America is/was a racist country.

If the question was has America had racist policy and or large contingents of racist people historically I don't know that we get here.

They're going to fight you on the big declarative statements about the fabric of our nation - that racism was part of the essential makeup of what America was.

On the flip side, the left goes too far the opposite way. See Nicole Hannah Jones intimation that the true founding of America was when slaves arrived.

So there's that tension between the two sides that helps lead to these stupid displays

At it's inception one in six people in the United States were slaves. I don't see how it's possible to argue that we weren't built on racism.

Sure, but before WW1 most things and most people sucked. Slavery was horrible, but so was the state of most of the world.

You could legally beat and rape your spouse until the 1950’s. Did you ever read The Jungle? Holy shit. Read Andersonville. That’s how confederate soldiers treated white people.

It’s so stupid. Someone should tell her that “the slavery passage” was written by Jefferson himself where it actually blamed the King for slavery and called it “evil”. The founding fathers understood their own hypocrisy on the subject and decided to delete it, knowing that someday slavery was going to end and be a stain on our country’s history forever. Unless you ask Haley about it of course.

We were built on tons of stuff. Sure there was racism, but lots of other stuff
Slavery permeated every facet of life in our country. There wasn't an industry, town, or even person not directly touched by slavery in some meaningful way on a daily basis. To downplay the impact slavery had during life then is to ignore reality altogether.

How did I downplay it?

What about my statement did you disagree with?

Your lots of other stuff comment. It comes across as trying to minimize slavery. Point blank, our country was built on slavery. Also point blank, Haley is completely wrong to claim that it wasn't. This belief alone should disqualify her from office.
Your comment comes off as over essentializing racism. If slavery was a building block, there were many other types of blocks in use, as you apparently admit.

Our country didn't need slavery to exist or thrive.
