Forgive me if this was covered in the game thread but what is going on with Hannah? She's not running the fast break, slow to close out on shooters, and seems like she was just jogging out there for the majority of the game. Has she not recovered from her knee injury/surgery?

No Caitlin throwing long passes so why run for them. Playing the 4 position and out of her comfort zone. Not a three threat . Hopefully her left hand layup improve of Teagan will be splitting minutes

I agree she looked sort of out of it today, but JMO
THe lack of get ahead passing is really standing out this year. I think the defense has a chance to be better this year, and set plays might be a little stronger by the end of the year. But the lack of intense ball pressure might limit the team. It will be interesting to see if Lucy, Taylor, and Guyton start pushing more as the season goes on. This team feels a little more deliberate, I'm hoping that the decisions/reads/reactions start to speed up with reps on the floor.

There will never be another CC, sorry to say boys. She's a once in a lifetime player, she made it look so easy for 3-4 years, especially the last 2 that we think it's a normal part of an offense. It's not. It's going to be an adjustment for Stuelke. She was a great 5 playing w/CC because she was pretty much faster than any other Center out there up and down the court. She also rarely had to take more than 1-2 dribbles last year, now similar to O'Grady. And on top of all that she's coming off surgery and missed most of the Summer from what I understand? I think she'll be fine but it will be an adjustment.

I said it during the broadcast she looked like she needs to get the cement blocks off her feet. She lacks intensity at times. As far as we can see, she does have burst at times, so we have no reason to believe at this point she's still in pain. According to the BiG Media days, she said she felt no pain. I've noticed this several times in several games now. It just looks like laziness to me, until I learn of something else we don't know at this time.

Seems with Hannah's speed, she should be able to do more backdoor cuts to get easy buckets in a half court set. Kinda like O'Grady passes to backdoor guard cutters. AOG is a great passer. Maybe Hannah needs that outside shot for this to happen. I'm going to rewatch the games again to see if this is possible. I haven't watched for it, but now this seems to be a reoccuring theme. She may need these easy buckets to stay more engaged. The game may be boring to her without CC and thus the lackadaisical attitude at times.

Ka$h Alexander also brought this out in the post game show. She should know as this one of her fortes when she played.

Can we be careful calling our players lazy?

Did you listen to Ka$h Alexander on Hannah?
Do you not understand when you see a person go, go, go from a year ago, to just going through the motions in some situations that something isn't right. Those are the situations she is LAZY! She should be bigger and stronger from year ago and with her knee healed as she herself told us, she should move even better.

If you want to sugar coat it with politically correct bs and give everyone an award, you do you.

Sure thing tough guy. I’m not sugar coating anything. I love tough guys like you calling out players for being lazy. You have no idea what’s going on. Pound salt.

Hannah is a good player, not great in my opinion

Still sloppy with ball, misses too many bunnies and FTs

She’s not dominant but she’s a nice piece

Maybe she's been eating too many muffins and now getting a little obese. I doubt that.

One game doesn’t make a player dominant

And it wasn’t 50 😎
I didn’t say she was dominant. But I’d say 2nd team all Big Ten as a sophomore and 6th man of the year is a pretty good season. But maybe not.

Hannah is very hard working. The conversation about our perception of her defensive effort is missing the context that she is now primarily guarding the 4 instead of the 5. As a general rule, 4s play more on the perimeter, cut more, are faster, tend to be more likely to be a threat from three... so defending them takes a very different defensive skillset.

Last season Hannah's defensive development was all about learning how to use her speed to neutralize the size advantage most other 5s would try to leverage against her on the block.

She's now adapting to a new role on defense as much as she is on offense. The place I've noticed it the most is her closeouts. You can she has room to improve there. Had she been defending mostly 4s throughout her career, I think she'd be farther along on that already. With good coaching I think she can get there this season. She definitely has the athletic tools.

Since I got flak for using the word laziness, I will respond to everyone in general.

First, my statements are being taken out of context and then they take the liberty to conflate it with something that's NOT remotely the intention.

Second, lazy is disinclined to activity or exertion; not energetic or vigorous; not willing to work or be energetic.
Maybe you're using the definition, "not willing to work" only while I'm using the definition, "not energetic or vigorous; be energetic."
"While lazy actually means being averse to work or avoiding it, it can also be used to describe something slow-moving or unenergetic, like when you stroll down the garden path with a lazy gait, not in a hurry to get anywhere."

Ex: Just because you do some dumb things in your life, doesn't make you a dumb person. Now replace dumb with lazy.

I'm not the only who noticed that this has happened more that just this game. Cory says that he also noticed something in the game prior also.
Here's a transcript:
Cory says: "I want to ask you [Ka$h Alexander] about Hannah Stuelke. You made a, you sent me a message during the game and said it seems like Hannah's just jogging out there. ... I commented back that it did. I did notice something in the last game that it felt like she was not moving maybe as smoothly as she has in the past or maybe not running as hard. Did you notice that as the game continued and should that be a a concern for fans ..."

Ka$h responds: "I'm confused about is because it's no way that [AOG] should be beating you down the floor ever, EVER, unless she got a half court ahead of you head start start and there was a time where she went to close out in the corner and she just kind of like nonchalantly jogged out there and I was like what is happening. She just doesn't, I don't know she's just not running as hard. She's not. We'll get some spurts like in the earlier games we saw some spurts right, but it's not the Hannah that was last year. Like she that was like her her mindset was go go go run run run run run. I don't know if she's not doing that because she's realized that I'm running for no reason because there's no Caitlin Clark to pass it the ball. I don't know but I feel like she's just not running and I don't, I don't like that for her."

As others have noticed, it's happening on both ends of the floor.

What's so hard to understand and what's this crap with equating lazy situations with being a lazy person. They're NOT remotely the same thing.

I stated the same thing Cory did in that I noticed it in several games now like he did.
I stated, "She lacks intensity at times."
I stated, "It just looks like laziness to me, until I learn of something else we don't know at this time."

It's at times, in limited situations. It's NOT talking about a person in general terms. That's why they're NOT remotely the same equivalence.

When you hear the words from her own mouth that her knee is healed and she is moving better with no pain, then I don't expect to see what I'm seeing from her AT TIMES. What's so hard to understand about going from "her mindset was go go go run run run run run" on a bad knee to jogging or being nonchalant at times on healthy knees? I'm sorry, but this doesn't equate in my book. If she's not using her gas on rim runs now, then she should have more energy for defense. It doesn't equate to an ex-Hawkeye either and that's why it's confusing to her also. The pieces to the puzzle don't add up.

Ever had co-workers that did the minimum as possible to get their paychecks? It's habitual in almost everything they do. That's a lazy person. If you haven't run across this in your lifetime, then consider yourself lucky. That's NOT what I'm talking about with Hannah. And yes, there are many co-workers that do their job descriptions and some even do more because they want to go to the next level.

There's obviously things Hannah is doing great at as she is averaging more points and rebounds than last year's NATTY run and she is doing it in a new role. I just don't see how you would get that kind of production from a lazy person. We're NOT talking about that part of her game. We're talking about these certain "at times" situations. I find it hard to believe I even have to explain this difference between several lazy times versus being a lazy person to grown adults.

If you want to call these isolated cases something else, then that's your reasonable prerogative to do so just as it mine to call it as I see it based on what I can see and have heard. I see a healthy person. She says she is healthy. She does show she has burst throughout the game. Somehow some don't understand what, "until I learn of something else we don't know at this time" means.

I'm not saying anything one way or another, but for those of you bagging on those wondering what's going on, the underlying question is they are simply wondering what's going on with HS. She can LOOK 'lazy' without BEING 'lazy'. Many, many athletes have commented on how it took them time to 'trust' their bodies after knee surgery, so that could be happening here. She could have a touch of the crud that's going around, or it could simply be the new position with new sets and players around her. They simply aren't seeing the same HS as they have in the past and are wondering what the back story is.
Not everything has to turn in to a argument.

So, we are four games in and one player, seems to some, is not playing as hard as she did last year. So, we are guessing why.
Maybe a good question for one of our mods to ask Jan at her next press conference.

Is Hannah completely recovered from her injury? What is her role in the transition game? Is she not getting down the floor as fast as last year? Just concerned about Hannah's health.

Carry on

Your rambling post full of excuses misses the point. You sound like a d*ck in your posts. Looking at the response to your criticism of Hannah, it seems that most people aren't here to read ppl bashing the players. Especially Hannah, who at one time got off of social media due to fan abuse.

If you can't take the pushback, go find a safe space where you can rag on the players all you want and no one will tell you to tone it down. (Maybe check out the football forum)

Maybe as she recovers from the surgery, she wants to "take it easy"

or just be "easy".

Sounds a lot better than "lazy"!

CC made Hannah a star but without PG that can set her up with perfect passes she’s very average
She certainly looked very "average" at best again today. Take a look at the stat lines for Indiana's senior starters vs Iowa's senior starters. Not good.....(Yes I know HS is a junior). Throw her in that veteran group as well...

She looks lost. She has obviously made amazing contributions to IWBB the last few years but I can't help thinking she is a track or volleyball player on a basketball court.
She can play obviously. 18 and 13 last game, (where she was used more as the post player). Unfortunately the farther she gets from the basket the less effective she is. Today was rough though. She kept hitting the bottom of the rim with her shots.

It seems they try to force her the ball a lot. Passes are nearly as good as Clark’s which is understandable. Maybe just stop trying to get the ball to her and the center all the time?

I agree she looked sort of out of it today, but JMO
I agree she did. A game or two I can understand (but this has been multiple games). At this level good players get it together. I am not sure this is going to happen for her. We need to rethink our strategy and go after transfers next year or we are in trouble.
