Hey I like Turk but this board is obsessed with him. Some pegging him as a high AA this year.

He beat Gross early in the year when gross was just getting his life back together. It wouldn't have been close later in the year.

Carton beat Turk last year.

Carton beat Turk in a wrestle off this year also.

From "room talk" Happel did just fine vs Turk before Turk got injured. with an entire year of maturing and improving I don't think this is close next year. That's if he can even make 41 ever again.

He may have a chance to start once sorenson graduates but a ton can change between now and then.

This is the furthest thing from a "Vince Turk stinks" post but it's just the way it is.

Though I agree that Turk has probably gotten more hype that he deserves, people are now thinking Carton can find his way on the stand this year. Carton is far more experienced as a 5th year senior vs Turk a RS frosh, their wrestle off was very close and their results have been similar.

I don't agree with the Carton AA talk but we will probably see him in the rankings soon. It isn't a leap in logic to think that Turk could follow suit.

Vince Turk may never do a darn thing relative to being a Varsity wrestler at Iowa, but there's gonna be a hell of a lot of water run under San Souci's bridge before Turk's career at Iowa is over. I view him the same as every other Iowa Wrestler - Show Me. Some do, some don't.

Don't suppose you happen to recall what happened between Tyler Clark and some kid named Ramos do you? They had a "wrestle-off" (wink,wink) too, which Clark won. I'm certain Tyler Clark wasn't our regular starter because of it though, anymore than Carton would be. If you can't beat anybody but a teammate you wrestle with everyday, what good are you as it pertains to the Varsity? Answer = not much. (Didn't returning 4th place RS Freshman Heil get beat in a "wrestle-off" last year as well? Not certain it was Heil but sounds right to me - one of the Cowboy faithful can confirm - if it was him, he didn't lose his spot either, because he proved he could beat everybody else not wearing the same colored singlet).

That's why College "wrestle-offs" have gone the way of the DoDo Bird and rightfully so. They are exhibitions and entertainment and very little else. Might as well play ping-pong.

Happel has had some good moments and some bad moments, in actual matches (14-3, not bad). He lost to Tyler Fraley from Willams Baptist, a Junior who is now #1, at the NAIA level and a Nick Nasenbenny of Missouri who's a RS Soph and was 6-6 last year and 3-6 this year, and got handled by Tommy Thorn of Minnesota. His results "verify" something to me, that he's got a lot of work to do yet, which I hope he does. He's got time, like Vince Turk does, to improve.
