Harbaugh's "Unconventional" Style of Recruiting

I've seen a couple other posts about this before, but Harbaugh seems to be trending more and more the closer we get to signing day.

What are your thoughts about this recruiting strategy? Is it a new trend or a gimmick? Personally, seeing all of this and hearing about NCAA's rules about recruiting, its a matter of not if but when a recruiting violation happens.

Should Iowa take this approach? IMO, absolutely not.

Sadly, in today's society it works. Harbaugh knows the power of social media. He knows each and every antic he comes up with will get "attention." Of course, kids will think it's cool and ultimately, that's the name of the game (getting them to sign the dotted line).

On the flip side, it's sort of a sad state that coaches are now going to tactics like this all in order to get a kid to play football for them. Is it about the kid? Or is about getting Ws ... That's the unfortunate part ... is many of these kids are just a spoke in the wheel to some of these coaches ...

One thing I love about Iowa is the stability and the family environment ... Harbaugh is a used car salesman (albeit a "luxury-car" used salesman) ...

I love social media media but now is it so typical for people to "do good things" because they know it will draw attention to them via social media. If you want to do a good gesture ... if you want to surprise your kid because you haven't seen them in a long time ... do it in private and do it because you want to ... not because you know it will be "shared" via social media ... All of these gimmicks people come up with now because they hope their video will go "viral" is sort of unsettling ... but I know that's where we are and it will only continue to get worse as we continue to become more self absorbed.

But his use of the media and moving the line is also working against him, see the SEC trying to shut down his off-campus camps.

I think Harbaugh is a great coach and has succeeded at every level and to that I like having him in the B1G.

But, the sleepover thing is creepy, really creepy, like Sandusky before he got caught(I am NOT saying this guy is molesting kids!) I just get that vibe of Ped State

I don't believe Harbaugh will get many dinner invites at the BIG'S next coaches' meeting. He has poached commits from both Maryland and PSU now. I have to admire his motivation, but not his methods. I'm willing to let him spend the night with coach Doyle. I don't think he would get off the carpet in the morning.

I'm here to take my medicine...as a Michigan alum and fan I have tried to justify the way we are recruiting.
But the latest with the Rashad Weaver decommit has put me over the edge. I'm not proud of what my University is doing to these kids. Michigan has sold its soul in order to compete with OSU and I've just realized that's it's not worth it. Sure, we'll get great talent but this isn't the way to treat people.
Whatever happened to the words commitment and loyalty? Our program should never be above the University...somehow the current staff has altogether forgotten what it means to be a Michigan Man.
...so jump on me all you want, I probably deserve it.

It's one thing for him to be weird and unconventional, but cutting kids a few weeks prior to signing day is wrong.

I am impressed with this post. It's easy to look the other way when a coach is bringing winning back even if he isn't doing it the right way. Michigan is a proud program and deserves better than the way Harbaugh is representing it.

People are shocked at Harbaugh? They spend $263 million on a stadium renovation and have to fill over 100,000 seats. They hire him to win (beat OSU). He is a winner. He wins. You are watching him win. Don't blame the general. Blame yourselves.

he just pissed the sec off again. some talk that for 1 week of spring practice it will be held at the field of img academy high school in florida. while the sec is trying to stop the camps michigan keeps setting more up this year.

no just psu. osu took the maryland recruits

Harbaugh and Michigan are laser focused on beating OSU which is the main driver with his recruiting tactics. I personally would love to see them hand it to the buckeyes.

Actually, people like you are one of many reasons I have and probably always will favor Michigan over Ohio State.

The only thing I watched was him getting his ass beat by OSU.

I believe, and have for many years, that supremely talented people have pretty strong demons. Just think week Blake Griffin breaks a hand punching a good friend the face. How can you explain that?

Harbaugh is incredibly talented, and is going to do great things at Mich. The only thing that can stop him is himself. You just never know what this guy is going to do next.

p.s. I don't like coaches pulling offers late, but I don't like players decommitting either. I guess we will have to live with both.

I really appreciate the fact that harbaugh is consistently a douche.
If he had some positive personal aspects, it would be harder to dislike him.
His consistently tool-like actions make it that much easier to loathe him and michigan.
Keep up the bad work jim.
