I had a 150k surgery to remove a benign nerve (schwannoma) tumor from my neck (on the vagus nerve near skull base) at Vanderbilt and only paid about a thousand out of pocket.

Blue cross blue shield of Illinois. (United kicked in a bit; was double insured at the time)

Wasted hardly any time worrying about insurance; was able to get one of the top doctors in the nation for this within BCBS network.

BCBS has served us quite well. Like many things though, rates are increasing at an alarming rate.

Yeah, my wife works at a major hospital and we don’t really pay for healthcare as a result. $100 monthly family premium for her and the kids, small deductible, low max out of pocket.

Our son just had a displaced fracture, surgical repair with pins and an overnight stay. $0.

We have, thankfully, never had consistently high usage, but every insurance I've ever had has paid exactly what the summary of benefits said it would pay.

Can’t say I’ve ever really had much for problems. Wife and I have had to do some things that we knew wouldn’t be covered up front that we wished would be. But we have paid pennies compared to what others in the same situation have probably paid.

pre 2013 or post 2013?

BCBS. No real problems. However, a sprained ankle is probably the biggest health problem I’ve had in the last 20 years.

Yeah, I couldn't afford the cost of most regular health care procedures without our medical insurance.

Had shoulder replacement about 20 years ago. The surgery was north of $60k. I think I paid about $400 out of pocket.

Went through surgery and radiation treatment for cancer four years ago in my 30s, with no issues from insurance. Hit my out of pocket max twice because it straddled the new year. But aside from that, I'm still here today.

Yes. I'm alive today (and financially afloat) because of it.

$100k plus (maybe $125k actually) across 3 surgeries this year, out of pocket all year $3k.

Before 2009 I had no problems, worked great. After then it's been a good sometimes and horrible the other other times.

BC/BC of Illinois for me and they have actually been pretty reliable for me as well. We had a couple other insurers before that though and they were terrible.

Since I retired in 2018, I've had surgery to remove cancerous prostate and broke my leg.

Didn't cost a penny.

I've been very fortunate.

I'm very happy with BC/BS of Iowa. I've had two hip replacements and minor back surgery plus lots of other stuff - no problems at all.

Since I was in my twenties I have purchased my own policies each year and paid big money in. Never needed it until I got older.
