Has Wadley's Draft Stock Fallen?

He'll make a nice sleeper pick because of his less than expected year. Still has all the talent and may be better in the open spaces of the NFL offenses!

No, he would have been around a 6-7 round pick, maybe UDFA. He's probably there or a bit higher. Remember, Lashun Daniels went undrafted.

I respectfully think this is inaccurate. There are a lot more of Lashun Daniels type backs available than Wadley-style playmakers. And with most teams going to multiple type scat backs, passing down backs, change of pace backs..........whatever your preferred term is, Wadley will be coveted before that late. I am thinking late 4th, early 5th.

Now I do believe his stock has fallen a bit (not a lot) based solely on the fact that he has another year of wear on the tires.

If healthy, I will be very surprised if he is not playing 8-10 plays on Sundays next year. With returns being the biggest part of that.

He would not have been a 3-4 rounder last year.

If a player like Wadley goes later then the 6th round and isn't consider a Special team player it's tough to make a roster

In all honesty, we don't know anything about "draft stock". Most of us on here, myself included, saw DK going in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Granted a different situation with so many DB's coming out last year, but nonetheless there are always a lot of solid RB's entering the draft every year.

My honest opinion, Wadley is a 6-7th rounder, as he was after last season. But again, I know nothing.

tOSU game is a real opportunity for him to showcase his skills against a top rated D like last year against Michigan as long as he gets the ball in space.

Having Todd McShay on the sidelines giving his input and seeing Wadley in person can only help bump up his draft stock if he has a good game. Wadley will be jacked up and ready to break some ankles if given the opportunity!

It's likely fallen some. But not as if he was a projected early round pick last year. According to this article, http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-draft-contract-values-2017-4
the only real difference for those later round guys is signing bonus.
Just my guess, but he might have been a tail end 4th rounder last year at best. Maybe he's a 6th rounder now to the right team. $200k signing bonus difference?

You are likely correct.

I doubt any NFL team has ever viewed Wadley as an every-down back. He may get a shot on special teams or as a 3rd Down/change of pace type back, but I don't believe he's ever been seen as a featured RB in anyone's system.

Wadley has done nothing to hurt his draft stock (because as you pointed out he likely would have gone late or ended up UDFA last year, anyway); however, he hasn't done anything this year to improve it, either.

I love me some Wadley but I really don't see him generating a ton of NFL demand.

I do believe on the right team he might be a good change of pace back. He's going to be labeled more of a scat back and certainly not build for between the tackles

Seen him as high as 2nd round, Oline issues hopefully haven't hurt as much as it seems.

Wadley will be valuable to a team who needs a back
who can run through big holes in the offensive line
and catch passes from a roll out QB. The NFL has
teams like the Chicago Bears who need his services.
He is the opposite of what the Bear currently have
in their running back Howard.

No doubt.Ronnie Harmon was a special player. So is Mr.Akrum.Walls can sting and stun ?

As a casual observer of the draft, it seems like the pros fill their needs at almost every other position before they take a running back, unless he is pro-bowl material. Wadley's best path is likely 3rd down back, slot receiver combined with kick return duties. Since he hasn't been able to display many of those skills very often, I don't see him going until later rounds.

Wadley seems to be not as good at making tacklers miss this year. That was what set him apart IMO. I have no idea how pro scouts value his abilities

Think his bulk has hurt his quicks just a bit. Plus just not seeing holes as well this year and not wanting to finish hard in the hole.

Still, I think he would be a solid late 4th to 5th round guy for the right team. He will get his shot.

Haven't looked at the rankings. He is having a solid year. Not a lot of highlight reels.

Teams will watch the tape and assess whether he had lesser opportunity to make yards this year based on line play, etc. Also the combine / Iowa pro day will dictate some also.

I kind of wonder in some cases if they don't talk to Doyle also to see what kind of worker they are in the weight room and conditioning.

I'm going to guess that he's been dinged up quite a bit over the past few games. Remember when we played ISU and PSU? He made huge individual plays in those games to give us a chance to win both. That is what NFL teams will see, scheme 6-8 opportunities for him to do that each game, and hope he hits one (or more).

A lot of struggles have been getting hit/pressured in the backfield, and he's done ok to minimize the negative plays. Let's see how he performs down the stretch, as our young OL continues to develop.

If he gets invited to the pro-combine, it will give a clearer picture, especially if he does well.

Undrafted, could make a practice squad, though, and if he can stick eventually third-stringer for a year or two before someone better comes along. If he can't play special teams, though, probably not even practice squad material.

Wadley can play in the NFL (unless it folds due to their own stupidity). He will be a very good 3rd down back. He is not going to be an every down player but he will still make a nice living.

About all 3rd down backs can block and play on ST not trying to be a Debbie downer but AW has to improve starting today

The line that Wadley had last year was much better than this year. The holes are not opening up for him and I believe this drops his stock considerably as he is unable to find openings. Occasionally using him as a receiver is not enough. One to two yard gains up the middle does not draw much interest from the NFL either.

Exactly. Let me add to the list from other teams that have the same type of backs (some of which almost never see the field):

Dion Lewis
James White
Tevin Coleman
Chris Thompson
Christian McCaffery
Jerrick McKinnon
Jacquizz Rodgers
C. J. Prosise
Alvin Kamara
Duke Johnson Jr.
A. Abdullah
Theo Riddick
A. Ellington
T.J. Yeldon
G. Bernard
S. Ware
T. West
Aaron Jones
T. Montgomery
R. Burkhead

The list goes on. Only a few of those guys are starters and even when they are starters it's out of necessity rather than being the best player. But plenty of them are stronger, bigger, and just as fast and quick as Wadley. I wish Wadley the best, but I'm not sure I'd rather have Wadley on my team than most of those guys. Would you rather have Wadley instead of McCaffery or Jones or Thompson or Abdullah or whoever else? There are so many I didn't mention. Those are guys who see some playing time. But there are plenty more on rosters and practice squads that don't. Injuries to running backs are the one thing that could get Wadley a spot on an NFL lineup during the regular season. But an injury is also what could end his career before he has a chance to try. He's not a big guy and running backs get hurt all the time.

I'm no expert but most 2018 draft rankings have Wadley in the top 10. Walter has him as the 6th rb taken.

Yeah, I've seen that. I may end up being wrong (I hope), but last year we all thought Desmond King was first or second round pick. He dropped to the fifth round. If Wadley can have big games against Ohio State and Wisconsin then I will definitely change my mind and will believe those rankings are justified. But it's going to be hard for him to make a team with such a deep RB class this year. I am hoping like hell that Wadley has the type of game he had against Michigan last year. We'll probably need an even better effort than that against OSU.

He'll get a shot, but expecting him to be drafted higher than 6th or later I think isn't warranted. Too lean for regular RB duty, not fast enough for regular slot receiver/Swiss Army knife type use.

I'd say he's exactly the type that needs a big combine showing to seal the deal. And while I acknowledge Iowa's run blocking hasn't been nearly as effective this year, Wadley's "spin cycle" moves have been a lot less numerous this year too. He seems to be getting tripped up just before hitting the hole far more, where last year he could dance through or around them.

As with many fringe types in the NFL, depends on the team drafting him and their needs and uses for him to stick. To me, good comps for a potential type of usage for him would be Randall Cobb, Wilson for KC. James White I think is bigger than we think.

AW at 195...scat back/returner/3rd down slot at best. AW at 210 with the same speed and quickness/light feet...then you got something more versatile/valuable.

Last year 26 RBs were drafted. I assume both Wadley and Butler will be drafted somewhere, even if 5-7 rounds.

It is probably like CJ Beathard situation last year and not having receiver/OL support but still going high in draft. Scouts can see the Iowa blocking is crappy. I hope Wadley can make it in NFL as slot receiver. He's just not big enough to break tackles as RB.

Leshun Daniels was not a high level athlete. Wadley is more unique than Leshun.
