A little lost in the bemoaning of Iowa's effort last night was the fact that NC State came into Carver and smacked us around. Granted, it was far from Iowa's best performance, but NC State's guys obviously had something to do with that. Their favored guys kicked our butts, they kicked our butt in the one real toss-up at 184, and their underdogs got after us at least enough to avoid giving up a ton of bonus points. And Gwiz is fun to watch. Stoll has improved by leaps and bounds and is one tough cookie, and Gwiz made it look easy against him before the injury.

So hats off to the Wolf Pack. It's good for wrestling to have a strong, up-and-coming program in the southeast.

Agree with you WWDM. NC State came to wrestle. They were confident and had a plan. Coaches were prepared and knew what they needed to do in each match up......win by major, not lose by major, keep it close, etc so they were in position to win. Coaches were positive with their wrestlers and the team seemed to be on the same page, cheering each teammate on and knowing what their task was in each match. Other than their 157 pounder who was shoving and pushing Cooper with cheap stuff as they went off the mat, I was impressed.

This post reminded me of Clark not cutting this kid and going for the major. Even when Brands was telling him to cut him. I was a little surprised by all of this? I know Clark wanted to turn him but if it hadn't happened it wasn't going to and didn't. Major would have been a big point.

Right on, LSanders. I was behind scorer's table and could hear coaches yelling at Clark. Clark likes his arm bars. Works hard and long to set up back points, usually to little or no avail. Gets called all the time for potentially dangerous. Coaches need to help him develop a new move. Not sure if our guys disregard the coaches yelling at them. Makes me wonder if they are on the same page going into the match. I know it is hard to hear coaches when you are on the mat with head gear and crowd noise, but NC State guys seemed be look over and be in sync on releasing, or pushing for take down.

If I was coach of any sports team & an athlete blatantly disregarded me like that, he would be running stairs for quite awhile after the meet.
