Have the officials been consistent with their calls all year long?

Just curious on everyone's opinion.

I think they have been consistent ALL SEASON with the block / charge call.

I also think they have been consistent ALL SEASON with the hand checking. As many of you have noted, MSU has struggled with this, and of course, Izzo probably thought that once B1G play began, things would go back to the way they have always been.

What do you think?

Have the officials been consistent in applying the rules ALL SEASON?

If not, what rule are they not following when it comes to whether a foul (or something else, like traveling, a jump ball, etc) should be called?

They are really inconsistent when it comes to hand checking if you ask me. They still allow way too much stuff to happen in a game. Is it a lot better then last year? Absolutely. There's still big room for improvement if you ask me. Things are going in the right direction though. Hopefully it doesn't regress back to last year as we get closer to March and the tournament. Up to this point I'd say the freedom of movement emphasis has been a success. Just want to see more progress in that area though. I think they've gone a long way this year to cleaning things up and getting freedom of movement but I still think there's a long way to go.

I have been very happy. It isn't perfect. (Jok guarded by Raphael Davis) But I'd take this if it doesn't change. Basketball is so much more fun to watch.

Agree with Dan. BB is way more fun to watch. I think the refs have done as well as old guys in ugly shirts can do. For human beings I'd say they have been consistent.

I'm honestly surprised that they have seemed to stick to it much more this year, I was fully expecting the rule to get relaxed once Big season started. And I agree it has helped the flow of the games. The Big has always been noted as year in and year out the most physical league and I am glad they have cleaned it up. Good defense is moving your feet, Not reaching and grabbing. Basketball had been trending towards becoming more like a football/wrestling combo.

Factoring in the element of human error, I think the consistency has been there in all the games I've seen. The only exception was the Purdue game at home. As I sounded off about after that game, Jok was mugged for 40 minutes.

I too opine that the officials are generally doing a better job of controlling the hand guarding and pushing. The blocking calls against the lane trolls have substantially increased it seems as well. The NCAA has been "emphasizing" this for years so maybe that emphasis has finally found an audience.

In fact it seems that there has been a noticeable improvement of the professionalism exhibited by the officials over the last several seasons. A long way from perfect but you don't see the outlandishly dishonest officiating that you had even 15 years ago. Certainly nothing like we saw 30 years ago.

You know how to tell a good official? The fans never bother to learn their name.

Compared to the MSU Iowa game in the Big Ten Tourney a fe years ago it's light years better, still think thats the worst refed game i ever saw.

As long as Valentine and other officals like Boroski (I think that is his name) are still around, officiating will still be bad & biased when they are involved.

This x infinity. Basketball is so much more fun to watch when the offense can move and flow.

They have been ok. They haven't seemed to stick out as much. One thing I have apprceciated is that they have been calling more traveling when people shuffle their feet this year. I like that. It has always been a pet peeve when there is a major travel that they just ignore.

The officiating seems to be much more consistent this year and the home court bias by officials has not been noticeable. Hopefully a evenly called game again will take place at Indiana tonight. Jim Bain was by far the worst referee that ever called any of Iowa's games. Does Valentine ever referee any of our games now?

Nurman, that's because you're not old enough to remember some of the games in the 80s and 90s. Sparty opened the 95 game, up there, by playing the first almost 18 minutes without a foul. That was a bad one, in fact as bad as one has been since probably the mid 90s (although the UNI game in I think Fran's second or third year was a bad one).

Steratore, one of the Eads (the older one), Monji (sp) and Bo Boroski are probably the worst officials for Iowa.

Depends on the game and crew imo. I've seen some good but also a good amount of bad. Some games still get a little too physical imo and i've seen some crews call a euro-step a travel. Also saw a missed goaltending last night lol
