Have we discussed the propane tanks and burner phones yet?

Not sure if this topic is "Pepsi old" and I've missed it, or it hasn't been discussed yet. And to be totally fair, who can even say if these are related, but I'm damn glad people are speaking up in case they are.

Backstory - a bunch of burner phones have been purchased at Walmart stores (and possibly elsewhere by Middle Eastern men in Missouri). Similar areas have had a lot of propane tanks stolen of late. Connecting dots here is obvious, whether it is correct to do so or not, and now there are investigations.

Yeah, that could be the case. The propane tanks may not have anything to do with the story of the phones.

So then let's talk about the phones for a while - what reason could there be for several Walmart stores to suddenly have Middle Eastern customers buying burner phones in mass quantities? Paying CASH as well?

If nothing else, the recent attacks in Paris and California show us that speaking up when you see something strange might help law enforcement (and other citizens) to be more vigilant.

I do not know if you are trying to be a dipshit or just that way naturally but taken alone you would be right. However taken with the burner phone info it may be way more. I believe that's what the OP is stating. It's certainly worth considering connecting and not an isolated incident.

Probably an Indian family (people assume they are Muslim based on looks) who are planning on opening a gas station and bought these items for resale.

"The individuals involved have been reported to be as few as two men in Lebanon and as many as five in Columbia." This sentence confused me until I realized they were talking about Lebanon, MO.

More strange purchases... perhaps every Missouri Walmart store is just going through their recent sales and recalling what seemed odd, I don't know.

A link from today where yet another Walmart store in Missouri had a foreign man buying 26 laptops at once. By the man's name, he appears to be Chinese and claims to have a "computer business". Again, it could be legit but it is odd for somebody to show up and ask to purchase a whole inventory of laptops from Walmart. That's not a good way to run a business, is it?

Meth manufacturers often use propane tanks to store anhydrous ammonia.

That would make sense too - and they'd be the type to steal them in the night too.

There are hopefully a lot of legit explanations. If not, I at least hope the local authorities and Feds are watching this area closely for chatter and social media stuff.

I'm sure they would be after this. If this does end up being something, it kind of fits the typical m.o. for terrorists getting caught because they're stupid.

Probably is for him.

Wait....it's close to Christmas, and people are buying cheap, no-contract phones at Wal Mart, a discount store where low-income folks who probably don't own cellphones shop?

Has to be terrorism.....no way this has EVER happened during the holiday season before....

I don't know what a pre-paid cell phone costs. I guess it depends on how many minutes you want. But can we agree that it probably costs at least $20 per?

So you don't think it is odd at all that Middle Eastern men bought 50+ of these things and paid with cash? "Low income folks" always walk around with $1000 to buy on 50 mobile phones that will be totally worthless soon, don't they? Moreover, it isn't odd that several Walmart stores in Missouri all had the same demographic buying these within a few days? Read the link, it shouldn't take you more than 2 mins total.

Hours later at a Walmart in the town of Lebanon, police say two men bought 60 phones. The men were questioned and released since police had no legal reason to detain them.

I would assume this means they provided a legit reason for the purchase. Obviously, they wouldn't have to answer such a question but it would certainly warrant surveillance if they weren't forthcoming about this supposed odd buy. If I'm hatching a terrorist plot that requires that many phones, I'm thinking I would be smart enough to spread my buys around so as not to arouse suspicion.

A Sikh temple in Calif. was recently defaced. Dude that did it thought the worshippers were Muslim.

Sort of an aside, I realize, but I've been to a Sikh Temple in Delhi. Very neat experience aside from having to walk barefoot in the "water" before entering. I forget what it is called, but there are only a certain number of Sikh temples in the world where they serve meals to ANYBODY for free. This was one of them and they let us into the dining area quickly between crowds. Wow, very moving to see...

This is the temple I went to:

If ISIS and other radicalized Muslim Extremists were smart, they would go underground in America until after the 2016 elections. If they keep sponsoring shootings and general acts of terror in America over the next 11 months, it will possibly lead to the election of NRA xenophobes and strong military politicians across the board, including POTUS. This won't happen because ISIS wants to serve Allah and Jihad cannot wait.

But that's exactly what they want! They want US leaders that hate all Muslims so that it divides the world and they can use the "us vs. them" mentality to recruit. Idiots like Trump and Cruz play right into their hands.

Dude, calm down. We realize it COULD be coincidence. Can you admit it MIGHT not be?

Yeah, I saw that dam story as well... there is a small (and probably dying) thread on it here.

What I suspect is happening in Missouri is people are talking about the phones / propane speculation and suddenly remembering other strange stuff involving "foreigners". Like the laptop story, and now this dam story. As another poster said, you wouldn't necessarily know if the people were Indian, Sikh, etc. Probably a lot of panic and people stirring the pot now too.

I also saw a story about a deer hunter discovering a cache of explosives buried in the woods in Missouri. The article said these weren't run-of-the-mill explosives either.

So who knows. I'd rather the authorities put the pieces together and be aware of all of this than NOT be and have to deconstruct it later like we did with 9-11.
