Have you walked away from any friends who are Trumpanzees?

I know liberals more toxic. Honestly, most Trump supporters I know don't give it much thought. Most people, liberal or conservative, aren't very sophisticated in their thinking.

It's fun to banter back and forth here, but at the end of the day each of us have lives filled with family, job, and other concerns that supersede politics.

It's really not that big of a deal. We survived W, we'll survive Trump.
Just because you know a lib more toxic doesn’t mean it’s the standard. However if you look at the right and online posting history you will see a pattern.

What pattern is that?

There is a lot of diversity among Trump supporters. You see it here. Some are stereotypically stupid; some live in denial; some live in an alternative reality; and some are reasonably intelligent.

There is no standard.

And thank you for illustrating precisely the difference and the problem.
I’m going to bed now, will revisit this thread tomorrow to see if anything good can be salvaged from it, which I doubt.
I'm a Reagan Democrat. Voted for him twice. USA. I care about my country. We're done Lone Clone. F this piece of shit in the Whitehouse. F you too

Well I must say that this post has me wondering where I might fit in your Trump matrix ;).

But truthfully I agree with this sentiment. Way more people than many of you know, are Trump voters, however, with the vociferous opposition these days, many choose to keep that fact close to the vest. Just not worth causing a rift in a friendship. Which I guess is the point of this thread.

It’s odd, I disagree with liberals nearly entirely but I wouldn’t say I hate them. Just would like to change their minds. But the anti Trump folks? Man they hate the guy and the voters that elected him. Or so it seems.

Well this isn’t as cut and dried as you seem to think.

The first step for you is to understand that not all see it as you do. Especially with record employment, a record stock market and historical low interest rates relative to the stock market.

Your impressions of things isn’t worth casting aside friends. I’m also guessing that your act on here isn’t carried over so dogmatically IRL. But if it is, you don’t deserve friends. IMO.

He literally did nothing to improve anything. Interest rates have been low for 20 years and the Fed controls monetary policy. You are right, others dont see it that way. They are f'n stupid.

What other way is there to see a circus sideshow reality TV fraud?

One of my best friends from college went all in on Rush, Fox News, and then Trump. We got into politics discussion at a bar in Chapel Hill, I basically told him I wouldn’t discuss politics with him given my disdain for all popular “news” media and that any discussion would be useless. I encouraged him to do independent research on Trump, read up on his history in real estate, his dubious financial situation, his well-known reputation for cheating people, grift, blatant dishonesty, legal troubles, etc. Explained to him my own personal experience having worked for a design studio in NYC cheated by Trump as well as doing work for a nonprofit associated with the Clinton Foundation. He was unbelievably angry that I characterized all the TV news crap as unworthy of discussion, feeling I was singling out Fox News even though I was adamant that I hated all of it. Competing soap operas I called it.

I’ve reached out a few times in the last few years, rebuffed. He’s a very, very, very prideful person.

I have a client who just revealed she supports Trump. She thinks he’s strong, a fighter. I asked her if she thought name-calling was a sign of strength of character... no. I asked her if she thought hiding everything possible from lawful subpoena was a sign of fighting for one’s innocence... uh, I guess not when you put it that way.

I asked her if she knew anything about his history as a “businessman”—how the wealth is not real, how no US banking institution would loan to him since late 90s, how his buildings aren’t even really his, that they’re basically owned by oligarchs many of them Russian, that a nice chunk of international real estate crap is basically money laundering and this is, in part, why Trump hides his finances as he does... no I had no idea she says. I then show her the website of the design studio in nyc I used to work for, clicked to the Trump property project, explained how when invoiced only 30% was paid and when the studio sought the rest we were forwarded to their lawyers and it became crystal clear we were not going to be paid, and how this is common “business” practice for Trump, well-known at this point.. really? no I had no idea!

I asked her how she would feel about her own clients if they paid 30% of her services and then used lawyers to stiff arm and drain her time and resources. Not good, terrible.

She basically admitted she really paid not much attention but that Fox News is everywhere where she lives, always on in restaurants and gyms, wherever there is a TV. I asked her if she understood that Fox News has a Republican bias... of course. Okay, then, how does it make you feel that a purported news source has left you so ignorant on very well-known substantive information on your president? Never mind you’re saying you support a man who fücks porn stars while his wife recovers from child birth, who creepily hangs out in teen pageant dressing rooms, who hung with Epstein, etc.

She was taken aback and I apologized for my reaction, explaining my passion stems from my work, much of which is centered on fighting the effects of centralized and consolidated power and wealth, and that people’s ignorant support of this man, based often on media-manufactured ignorance, serves to further sequester wealth, and with a man like Stephen Miller in the WH, well, that people defending Trump provides cover for a man like him is a serious thing for me. Who is Stephen Miller? She asked. I took her through some of his backstory and associations and she was shocked.

This is the extent of my direct personal dealings with friends.

yeah. trump being in office has nothing to do with the economy......that’s a nice story you’re telling yourself. If a dem gets elected it’s all headed downhill I promise you that. High interest rates, businesses hiding or holding assets, stock market free fall. Just wait. I honestly expect a dem to get elected and we will see. Maybe if they govern from the center we will be ok. But I kinda doubt it.

Lol.

were you dead in the 2000’s?

Jeremiah Wright.
Tony Rezko
Saul Alinsky
Bernadine Dohrn
Bill Ayers
Frank Marshall Davis
Why the snark? Was I supposed to guess which associations were dubious to you? I will address tomorrow.

This attitude isn’t healthy. You need a therapist. If you don’t have one already. Really man, I feel the hate, disgust, scorn, and elitism in you. It’s kinda sad tbh.

Fair enough. Snark given but perhaps not earned. I’ll check back tomorrow.

I have a strict "no religion, no politics" policy when hanging out with friends. Political beliefs isn't what brought us together as friends, so why would I let it be the thing that divides us?

I'm with you, I don't do politics with friends. That said, I think with Trump this is so much different than just differing political beliefs.

It's not just policies or different beliefs about taxes. He's so transparent with how repulsive and reprehensible he is, it's not a matter of politics but just decency.

It's really easy for me to see how it could disrupt friendships.

Yeah just like 2009 being handed off a market crash under Republicans to Obama. I would say Obama did very well by your standard.

How about this; Life expectancy has gone down.

Like most cons you view the world as a financial zero sum gain.

If I were going to let politics decide my friends, I would have a hard time being friends with someone on the left who does nothing but insult Trump supporters, rather than an actual Trump supporter.

News, HROT postings, and Facebook are generally not real life...meaning most people honestly are just not that passionate about it.

Part of my friend filter is just not to befriend people who are political at all. I don’t care which side.

I loathe and detest politics. Politicians, all of them, are scum. There are no exceptions.

As such, people who follow politics and politicians closely have no value to me.

I have a number of friends and family who are Trump supporters. I’m more sad for them and disappointed to know they're either a) just not that smart, or b) know Trump is a rehrehensible human being but nonetheless put personal financial or religious interests ahead of values and interests I thought we shared.

It may be different until this (hopefully) passes, but in the meantime I’m not going to destroy any personal relationships over a piece of shit like Donald Trump.

I think that liberals need to look in the mirror and see who is making a big deal about Trump in your personal lives. I’ve found that the anti trump crowd makes it a point to discuss Trump to people that may be supporting him. It often gets testy with the first words out of your mouths. You guys can’t resist

I never bring up politics. I treat Trump supporters like Amway people. I won’t tell you what I think about your “business” as long as you don’t try to sell me on your scam.

PS - you’re conflating liberals and the “anti-Trump” crowd. The latter group is much bigger.

You are correct...there is a difference but those two circles almost perfectly overlap each other.
I know many on here, including myself, hate how Trump conducts himself on twitter and in front of a microphone. Making fun of people, the childish name calling, the petty fights. What surprises me though is that many anti trump people approach people who don’t agree with them politically in the same Childish, pretty BS, ugly manner.
You will be talking about the weather or a sports team and then it’s like the anti trump hormone kicks in and then all of a sudden you have someone saying Fuk Trump, his supporters are retarded....bla bla bla.

IMO it doesn't matter of you are liberal or conservative but the more you lean one way and are radical about it the more issues and more toxic you are.

This place is a perfect example. If the political freaks here talked to the people on the other side in real life the way they do here there would be quite a few black eyes out there. This forum gives people balls they wouldn't have in person.

I suppose that could be the case, I just haven't experienced it. Like @LesClaypool said, part of my filter is to avoid people who bring up politics in a casual setting even if I agree with them.

I have one friend who went completely off the rails in support of Trump. Can’t have any conversation with him without it turning into him spewing pro-Trump / anti-liberal nonsense. I’m not the only one who’s pruned him from my life. It’s bad.

Was he sort of like that pre-Trump or did it just explode in the last couple of years?
