Hawkeye Women's Hoop season

I said earlier, it's Warnock's time tonight. Last season against Michigan St. i.e. the Gustafson number retirement game, Warnock single handed defeated the Spartans with her dribble drive in the second half.

Box score from 12/12/20 IOWA @ MSU
Iowa started poorly and even went scoreless for the first half of the second quarter. At that point they trailed by nineteen, 35-16. From that midpoint of the second quarter, they steadily cut into the deficit, out scoring the Spartans 66-51 to get themselves back to a narrow four point loss. Caitlin and Monika led Iowa in scoring with 35 and 24 respectively. McKenna led the team in rebounds with 12 and assists with 6, while Kate had 3 steals to lead Iowa in that statistic. Caitlin was nine for nine from the ft line and also added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks to her stat line. Monika and McKenna fouled out.
Iowa shot 4 of 20 from three for 20% (Caitlin was 4-10 while everyone else was 0-10) and they were 26 of 28 on free throws for 93%. Iowa had 19 turnovers to 15 for MSU and out rebounded the Spartans by one.
It was the Hawkeyes first B1G game of the season (exactly 3 months ago) and their first loss.

Loved this tweet from Brandee Britt, who runs a lot of social media stuff for the Hawks, and specifically the womens bball team.

"Hey I reject your claims of racism, but I'll take two orders of sexism please. Thank you." I like how you all presume intent of other crap posters' crude comments, but my presumption is clearly wrong even though similar racial comments were made years ago by a national voice, and the notion of making fun of 'masculine' looking black women is a common racial insult that is prevalent over the internet. If you're ignorant of Imus and ignorant of the internet hate, then own that ignorance and hopefully you learned something new today. The only thing I'm offended by is really bad humor. And if you're upset I used the 'r' word, then don't make a comment that most people outside of anonymous forums would view as borderline 'r'-worded. 2020 Iowa football scandal really opened up some insecurities huh?

//end rant

Michigan State will be a tough test. Iowa has played two physical teams back to back and MSU will be another one. Warnock and Martin should be good to go and MSU is as banged up. Clark should be the deciding factor here. I think she steps up and drives this team into the finals.
Oh, I'd agree that there are insecurities all right. Just not who you think.

Imus literally slandered the Rutgers team by calling them "nappy headed hoes". You have to have zero understanding of modern western culture and hip hop to know there are two terms there that are clearly associated with black culture and slang. Also, Imus literally apologized because those comments were viewed as racist and sexist. If you're making comments in the same light as his, slandering the same freaking team the same way he did, then maybe that's why you'd receive backlash too if you said that in public. But you won't say those comments in public because you're an anonymous fool on a message board.

Again if you're trying to do a lame Imus bit, first understand the bit! Imus was always terrible, you should have listened to O&A.

Lighten up Chairman Mao. Gentlemen, what we have here is the archetypical post modern leftist. Everything is seen through the prism of race. Anything with which they disagree is racist, even where race is not involved or implicated. Its a knee jerk reaction produced by years of indoctrination and unthinking repetition of slogans.

"How many men" are playing for Purdue is obviously a joke, albeit not the wittiest humor we find on this site. They guy didn't say anything about race. Liberty, you realize there are big homely mannish looking women in every race and ethnicity on earth, right? Its about aesthetic physical attraction, not race. Well, I guess SE Asians are kind of small as a rule so I suppose they have small mannish looking women in their demo mix. Its like the rant that claims "illegal aliens" is a racist term although it applies equally to every nationality, ethnicity and race on the planet.

Imus' even worst attempt at humor and irony is not comparable. Imus used an expressly racial remark that denigrated the appearance of all black women and an even more insulting implication that the Rutgers girls where whores. There is no logical analogy between the two remarks. Don't forget, Imus was really ironically demonstrating the tolerance for black male rappers to say horrific misogynist things about women, especially black women while the PC crowd was screeching racism at everyone else, although he chose a terrible way to demonstrate that hypocrisy.

You better hope men, and women, never stop noticing and commenting on physical appearances. That's a manifestation of the sex drive that keeps our species, and really every mammal species, reproducing and perpetuating their species.

Warnock might have gotten the And-1, but she shouldn't have floated into Czinano's space in the first place, which caused her tough shot to miss.

This is where a young but talented team can make its bones for a high preseason rank next season. Caitlin will surely be pre season PoY.

Lets hope for the big upset tomorrow. The girls could make a nice run with teams that haven't seen Caitlin this year. I'm thinking the NCAA opponents will over defend Caitlin and double Monika off Gabby Marshall, who will light them up.

A week ago I said this team had met, but not exceeded, my expectations. The run this week changes that. A Big Ten Tournament championship game appearance and a 5 or 6 seed (or better) in the NCAA Tournament is more than I expected this year.

This team is really starting to remind me of the 2017-2018 team. A star player, a good supporting cast, but a year away from being a great team. Hopefully the NCAA Tournament goes a little better this year, but the team is certainly showing its potential. If the players grow and focus on their defense more, the next couple years could be really fun.

They have improved a lot in the last month. Monica C has really played much better on the defensive end lately.
