He just got 5th at Midlands...not sure he needs to go to the Flanagan. Maybe he's traveling with the team to Mich

Only limited number can travel. I would think Marinelli goes over Young and you wouldn't take 3 165.

Put me in the camp of Redshirting Alex and letting Kaleb run with 165 this year. Take some lumps but gain valuable on the job experience, redshirt next year and do nothing but get better and bigger and come out breathing fire at 174 in 2 yrs.

If you do this who would the Hawks have at 174 next year? Jw

Honestly, Id just take the hole in the lineup and throw a Moody or someone out there. I know Pride hurts but TnT painted themselves into a rebuilding year with sub par classes prior to turning it on lately with recruiting. The goal now should be to try and align gradewise Kem, Bull,Kaleb with Spencer, Warner, Teasdale the best they can.

We cant win next year. This year the Bull wouldn't matter. He isn't ready to get the points needed yet. Let him sit so he can be a 4x not a 3x and maybe. If Iowa is to win this year it will take Sammy, Stoll and Meyer (2 of 3) making a finals and joining Sorenson, Clark and Gilman. It takes 6 finalist types anymore. Note 6 guys in the top paragraph as well and a SR Stoll.

Really who knows, just keep recruiting better and these conversations get easier!

Several people have mentioned aligning our studs, but that would create a huge problem down the road. There needs to be overlap so the starters don't graduate at the same time. This year is a great example as 5 of our starters are seniors. That creates at least one building year and possibly more.

Maybe so, but there's value in competition so the more matches the better.

Maybe so, but does pinning some lower level guys in 1 or 2 minutes really give him much competition? Much more competition everyday in the room. Tournament like this pads stats, not skill level for guys like Martini and Young.

In the whole he shouldn't go because he's too good question, have we sent top level recruits to this in the past? If so then I thinks it's a reasonable question to ask why not send him. Getting used to going to a tournament like the midlands then getting right back on the mat no matter what the competition level is isn't a bad thing right? I mean the guys going to Michigan wrestled the midlands and they might have lower level competition that they go out and beat up on this weekend should they not go? (yes I know it's an exaggeration but I assume most will see my point)

I guess at the end of the day it's up to the coaches and him what to do.

There's no substitution for competition regardless of how tough it is in the room. Plus competition is additive to practices not in lieu of. All of this in my humble opinion of course ;)

The key is to get the studs that can win a title. The last recruiting class "bust" gave 5 years without a title. If these new recruits live up to expectations, you guys will be in the hunt for 4 of the next 5 years and probably heavy favorites. Now is the time to be practical. Even PSU had to accept a down year and get ready for a run later. OSU goes thru the cycle quite a bit also. They will be a contender for a while, then place like 7th or something and then next year, they are a contender again. This is the reality.

The whipping Valencia put on the Bull should be a clear indication that he will be much more valuable to the team as a 5th year senior than he is as a true freshman. If it looks like it will be 2 point race, then it is a tough question, but it does not look like a two point race to me at this time. If TnT thought it was, Bull would probably have already had his shirt pulled.

It is just as likely this year that the Hawks could have 5 in the finals and no other placers(G man, Clark, BS, Kemdawg, and Stoll), 2 in the finals with 3 other placers(G man, BS - Kemdawg, Stoll, and Brooks) as it is that they have 3 in the finals with 4 other placers(G man, Clark, BS, - Kemdawg, Meyer, Brooks, Stoll). This NCAA title is not for the Bull to win for the Hawks. Meyer and a healthy Clark need to perform.

The brackets are small and the level of competition is less than I anticipated. Consequently, I must admit I was wrong in my previous comments. It's possible that Tom might have been better informed and made the right choice
