Hawkeyes/Goophers PBP

They show Clark going at 133 on the broadcast for whatever that is worth. Bowman going and Holloway as well.

BS vs. Kinglsley (6-8)

Sweep single, nothing. Colar tie hard by BS, tries go behind nothing, then into two sweep singles for nothing. Stalemate. Halfway through the period. BS in on his single now, coming back through the middle and gets the TD. Minute left has wrist and spirals him down to the hip. Kingsley not doing much. Period going to end 2-0 w/ RT

BS chose neutral.
Kingsley finally tries a shot but defended well. BS gets the go behind, cuts him. Ankle pick by BS with 40 left. Has a hammerlock, now loses it and back on the wrist/spiral. Kingsley warned for stalling.
Period ends 6-1.

Kingsley takes top.
BS lots of sits and gets the escape with about 145 left. Looking for a go behind and then switches directions and hits his sweep for the TD.
Cuts him with 115 left. Gets to a FHL again, gets the go behind again. 11-2.....45 left....stalling again on Kingsley. 12-2....Rides him out with almost 3 min. RT
Final 13-2
Hawks 4-0

My favorite thing about Sorensen is an underrated thing. He has very strong and fundamental head/hands defense. A lost art for a lot of college wrestlers who simply sprawl and funk.

Kemdawg vs. Short (2 vs. 9)

Kem in immediately in on a single to the left side and gets the TD. OOB
Short stands quick off whistle and gets the escape. 220 left, 2-1 Kem
Kem takes a long shot and Short gets a quick Go behind and Kem gets out instantly. 3-3
Half shot by Kem. Half shot again and not gets caught in a FHL....stalemate.
Half sweep attempt again, nothing. Kem stalking, Short not doing much on his feet but countering. Kem hits him with a huge double and finishes quick with 20 left in period, going to ride him out.
5-3 w/ 35 RT

Short finally took a shot. I'm surprised he hadn't been called for stalling yet.

Kem goes down, immidiate escape 6-3
Another quick shot and Short almost counters again with the quick go behind but somehow defends it and gets a SM. Kem still showing lots of action and Short just trying to catch. :42 left. Short shoots right off whistle and Kem gets the go behind, now has him on his belly. Rides him out...now has 1:08 in RT.
8-3

Short goes down, Kem cuts him and in on his head outside single, now in a scramble, Kem comes out on top for the TD. 10-4
Has the hammerlock, scraping to a cradle with the leg hooked...looked close but doesn't get it and then decides to cut him. Minute left, gets back in on his single, comes out the back gets the TD. 12-5....almost cuts him but then jumps back on him and has him on his belly....Stall warning on Short....just laying there...time ends with Kem running an arm bar.
13-5.......8-0 Hawks

Kemerer just waxed him. Short had :45 left in 3rd and he didnt even try to get away to prevent the major.

I'm here.

Gunther-Wanzek
Period 1:

First minute is mostly dancing, no committed attacks.

Wanzek mostly controlling ties, he takes a shot and touches a leg, but it stops there.

Gunther with the same thing, he got one arm on a leg, but wasn't able to get any further.

A minute lefet, and Gunther is getting more of the inside position on ties now. Wanzek with a half shot to clear ties. Wanzek is trying to back away and GUnther with a sweet little drop down to get in single leg position. Wanzek tries to flee the mat but Gunther collects the other ankle and Wanzek has the hand down! 2-0 Gunther with 20 seconds left.

Gunther with a couple of really nice returns to ride out the period 2-0 Gunther after 1.

Gunther-Wanzek
Period 2

Gunther returns Wanzek a couple of times. Escape Wanzek with about 1:35 left. 50.8 seconds of RT for Joey. 2-1 Gunther.

Gunther is controlling ties right now with 19 seconds left. No committed shot attempts from either guy. Wanzek clearly saving it for the third period "late attempt" to try to steal the match back. Period ends 2-1 GUnther with 50.8 seconds RT. Gunther chooses down to start the third.

Gunther-Wanzek
Period 3

Gunther out in 6 seconds. Not much resistance from Wanzek. Mostly they're just both playing from space. Wanzek with a half shot but doesn't get to a leg.

Gunther is hit for stalling twice relatively quickly. Wanzek almost got him two times with a knee block and an ankle pick, but Gunther avoids it. Gunther then counters a head lock and gets two to finish the match.

Brands not happy with the ref's stalling calls, and I think Brands' beef is legitimate. Somehow Short got called for stalling once but Gunther got hit for stalling twice.

Either way, Gunther wins 3-2.

Not very consistent with the stall calls, looks like Brands agrees. Short did nothing and there was only a token stall call at the the end. Gunther did a lot more than Short and got 3.

Meyer vs. C. Pfarr
Period 1

Will Meyer sleepwalk his way thru the first period again? We get blood time twice early, Meyer looks like he "can't hold his mud." Meyer working his two one one tie, but no shots yet. Another blood stoppage.

They restart again and ANOTHER blood stoppage. Ref says it's all over the center.

The blood is really making this match even more awkward then normal. First period ends with no shots and a lot of blood time. 0-0. Meyer chooses down.

On the radio, Ironside was pumped about Sorensen and Kemerer's action, esp. Kem's. Got to a TV to watch Gunther. Did he get elbowed after the horn? Certainly not.

I'm following on Gopher forum too. Funny shit. The posters know how this will end.
Really railing on Gilman for his antics.

How many times can they stop for blood? Who was the 84 / 97 lber about 8 years ago who had a forehead made out of tissue paper?
