Meyer vs. C. Pfarr
Period 2
Meyer out really quickly, not much resistance from Pfarr. Little Pfarr w/ a quick snatch single, but Meyer with some great strength to break the grip and get his foot down!
Meyer in on his own single leg, shoots right through the hands defense. Meyer is elevating the leg, chasing Pfarr and the finish. Gets Pfarr down and it's 2-0 Meyer!
Rides out the period. Pfarr chooses down.
Period 2

Minny coaches are screaming for the snatch single again, but Meyer is in on a sweet double and Pfarr, for whatever reason, doesn't belly out and Meyer smartly steals some backpoints! Meyer strengthens his position and is looking for a fall here with the leg turked. He's got 4 backpoints. Pfarr finally bellies out. Meyer rides out the rest of the match and gets the 9-1 Major! Great job by Meyer in a really awkwardly delayed match.
Period 3
C. Pfarr out just as the RT goes over a minute. With that said consistently shooting across the body like that will get him in trouble, especially against better competition. He needs to set up that long shot better, but his length and continued drive through his shots bail him out a little. Short stopped that across the body shot once (and scored) and probably should have twice and I don't think short is that good.
Love this kid and his gas tank, just something that needs to be worked on before Big Tens and NCAAs
Brands prob didn't want Sorensen to risk in getting the major by letting kid from minny tie up the clock on top
The way Minny is wrestling today, I wouldn't be shocked if Holloway won.

Sammy looked like he wants to eat Bobby. Do you think Gable would even think about Iowa is Sammy assaults his brother on the mat?
Sammy trying to get to his two on one tie, but Steveson able to clear it. Sammy now digging underhooks. Announcers are talking about how he should be looking more for his single leg.
Like clockwork Sammy drops to a low single. Steveson has a whizzer and is defending well. Sammy trying to shelf the leg and it's going to be tough to finish from here.
Brooks wisely drags Steveson to center and Steveson loses his whizzer. Sammy collects the second ankle and it's 2-0. Sammy goes right into his cross wrist tilt and Steveson looked flat for a second. Sammy only gets two, though. Sammy rides out the period. 4-0 Sammy.

Iowa up 19-0 at the Intermission of what I can only describe as the Border Minor Skirmish.
I thought Sammy was very cordial to Stevenson. Definitely could have been uglier - it was more of a big brother type of major. Like - I gotta get these team points BUT please transfer to Iowa and bring your little bro w you.

He's a bit of a pinner. Think Gibbons even mentioned that he's the Gophers career pin leader on the team for active wrestlers.
Seemed like a pretty silly statistic given the current state of their roster, but I suppose there's no sense going underneath him more than we have to. Didn't last too long up there on Sorensnen haha
I've seen Kingsley stick quite a few guys but I don't recall him ever really doing it to anyone ranked very highly
Mitch Bowman vs. Brett Pfarr

Pfarr drags to a single leg and finishes quickly on the edge. Bowman with a very smart and strong escape right there on the edge and it's 2-1. Pfarr drags to a single again and switches to a double for the finish.
Pfarr lets Bowman up immediately. Pfarr posts and hits the high c to Bowman's left side. Finishes quickly and tilts Bowman for a quick two. He's loose, though, and Bowman gets out after only giing up 2. It's 8-3 Pfarr.
Bowman shoots a wild shot from distance and Pfarr easily counters for 2 and he rides out. 10-3 for Pfarr after 1. Bowman chooses down.

Some HWT dancing for a while. Holloway looks for a snatch single with about 1:40 left, but can't lock his hands around the leg. Announcers are talking about low attacks, haven't seen that from either guy yet.
Kroells mostly controlling the ties. Holloway showing some nice lateral movement, but still no committed attacks from either guy. The period ends 0-0. Kroells chooses down.

Holloway vs. Kroells
Period 2
Kroells stands up. Holloway returns him but loses his grip and Kroells with nice mat awareness to get the reversal. 2-0 Kroells on the restart. Kroells with a Tony Nelson patented Spiral Ride to Nowhere. Holloway gets to his feet once but Kroells immediately returns him. Holloway has mostly been in his base for the entire time, but never close to an escape. 2-0 Kroells with 1:37 in RT. Holloway chooses down.
