Iowa running backs coach Ladell Betts offered Texas native Deago Benson during an in-home visit tonight.

The 6-foot-0, 200-pound Benson is a cousin of the late Cedric Benson, who of course played at Texas before being drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round.

Benson said Betts was able to talk to him and his parents about Iowa and how he would fit into the offense, not only running the ball but they also really like his receiving skills coming out of the backfield or even lining up in the slot at times.

Betts invited Benson to make an official visit this weekend, 12/9, which is when he's scheduled to visit Vanderbilt so it's something he said he's going to have to talk over with his parents. Either way, he does want to visit Iowa before making a decision though.

A three-star prospect, Benson was verbally committed to Washington State at one point, but reopened his recruiting in October. He currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Washington State, Vanderbilt, Boise State, Arkansas State, Tulane, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Navy, and New Mexico State, among others.
