Never underestimate the ability of Northwestern to play to its level of competition, for better or worse. Almost every game is close. It has been that way for years.
Agree with you and that’s part of what I’m saying. They play a lot like we used to. I simply feel this team is at another level from the standard Iowa team. Players and coaches.
Why did people want NW to lose to RU?

We want to get to the B1G championship game, more teams in our division lose the better, pretty simple.
If we win out we don't need NW to lose another game(besides to us).
I'd rather see us WIN the division than see(hope to see) another team lose it. We already have to hope wiscy "loses" it.

Needed to beat Northwestern anyway, regardless of whether or not they won against Rutgers. If NW does us a solid and beats Wisconsin, it means in theory we could lose at Penn State and still have a decent shot at the division because we would win if we won the last 4 and Wisconsin loses to Penn State as well.
division championship isn't as fun if you don't even beat a ranked team. hopefully pedd state beats indy, so we can do so in a week!!

We aren’t getting there with another loss. Wisconsin is not going to lose two more games and if they do, the second one will be to Northwestern.
in that scenario (yes we’re dreaming, I believe you’d want Wisky to beat NW to make it a more credible loss to the committee.
Basically they lose today and win next week and our 2 competitors in the west are out of it. Now Wisky has more motivation to win next week and it would be better if NW was coming off a loss with something to prove.
This isn't to say I don't understand your position on beating the best. There is something to be said for that as well. I just feel the first part of this paragraph outweighs the second.
Northwestern is completely 1 dimensional. If it's windy, or Thorson is off... They could get blown out by just about anyone.
