Hawks Top 5 Scorers Against Oral Roberts

After 3 games there are only 2 Hawks
who average double figures in scoring.

Garza with 21 pts. per game
Wieskamp with 10 pt. per game.

Defensively I'm concerned how many other teams players score in double digits. Garza and JW are the only offensive threats we have (God bless JBo, he just needs to worry about his health). We're the Washington Generals and the Globetrotters will be kicking our a** most the year. Our defense is strictly offensive for our opponents.

I agree that Weiskamp has seemed out
of sync with his 3 point shooting. He is
still playing defense. Even his free throw
shooting is off kilter.

Good post. This team plays the worst defense I have seen since maybe last year's team and then the one before. What does this staff get paid to do? All the practice time and Fran is talking about the same crap. Guys not locked into game plan, guys not understanding they need to move the ball, guys not understanding not to quick shoot, 5 not playing as 1 on D.

Pretty clear we are back to the same old Iowa under Fran. Spread us out and attack the basket because we can't stay in front of anyone. How many layup's did ORU get when they cut into the lead? Seemed like the like last 5 minutes was 'Another easy basket for ORU' from Dolph.

When put together slowest starting 5 in Div1 Basketball, you are going to have trouble staying in front of your man on defense.

Yeah, I'll take it. However each had 4 inches on the tallest players for OR. So, they should have had those stats.

Defense is the key. I hope it improves greatly.
Well maybe, but Garza still should get credit for the % he makes. He is a volume scorer. If it would have been our friend Woody, who I loved, you know he would still miss a lot of those bunnies.....

Diff is Woody played defense ...Luka scores 20 and gives up 20 ...defense is terrible.....Plus he never ever passes that three he shot up 10 might of been the most selfish play I have seen in Frans ten years of one of his players. I was sitting right across bench and Fran lost his mind when he shot it. Dude needs to chill or hes going to have a heart attack on the bench.

Garza needs to look for Wieskamp on the
perimeter and stop the barrage of 3's that
he takes.

I was unable to see the game. Why did the reserves play such limited minutes, especially JoeT and Pemsl? Seems to me that these are the games when players like JoeT and Evelyn should be getting more minutes than they might get down the road, to see what they can do and how they fit into certain lineups.

Joe T was in foul trouble

So the reserves sucked? It sounds like Nunge at least got over his stage fright or whatever was going on, but otherwise, we need some significant improvement quickly.

Yes, our defense is not particularly aggressive, due to lack of team speed, but it is early, and we have a lot of players who still haven't gotten rid of the rust from injuries and lack of recent practice and playing time. Good to see Nunge and Bohannon start to warm up a bit. Cordell is so rusty his legs are orange. I think that Fredrick needs to get much more aggressive on offense. He is a star waiting to shine, I think. I don't think we're going to have Patrick McC this year. Needs to get his thyroid and parathyroids back in balance, and I hear that's not easy, even for specialists. Lots of reasons for lack of playing time for some kids at this time of the year, so let's be a little patient. Toussant and Kriener certainly deserve more playing time., and people malign Connor, but nobody on the team can distribute the ball like he does. Schedule picks up in a hurry so we may have a few more losses earlier than last year. Yes, we are slow, and on top of that we're about 75% of what we hopefully will be when the joints are oiled and the cobwebs are out of the brain.

JoeW will get it going, and if he is healthy, I'm not worried about him. I agree that CJ needs to be more aggressive and have the green light on the offensive end. Luka isn't going to have his way on offense once we start playing most of the better teams. We are going to need to move the ball and look to other options.

I still think we have some upside.

Joes will start making open shots
Luka needs to recognize double teams quicker and pass rather than forcing it
Connor needs to move more north-south and not stop the ball
Joe T just needs let the game come to him a bit more and then utilize his talent in the right spots.

My main complaint about the defensive coaching is this "switching it up" philosophy. This team and its two predecessors cannot really master one defense. They do play one defense fairly well, that three quarter court zone press that collapses into a zone. Its the only aggressive thing they do.

You know in every team game there are different kinds of players. I think we have the defensive talent that really needs to focus on doing one thing right. Win by mastering that one good thing, or least one basic good thing with a few wrinkles.

The Woody/Mikey G years we had the defensive talent to play multiple defenses. This group has not shown that talent.
