Niemann and Hockaday are out and its wait and see until late week on Fant and IKM. Of course Amani Jones is out the first half as well. OJ and Hank will play but Hankins having had recent surgery is a bit concerning. It's homecoming for Indiana and they always at us tough. Need.to bring out A game.
Does Hooker play the "Star" position again this week?
I say go pass heavy again this week.

KF said Jones played much better against Minnesota then in previous games. Said Welch will play first half and then based on that half will make a decision on whether to ride with Welch or sub Jones in.

Does Doyle play this week? He won't lose his redshirt, and he enrolled a semester early iirc.

Hearing Aaron Mends has a chance to play this season per KF.

Pretty crazy when you think about it that the Mends a projected starter went down with injury, then Niemann, then you had Jones get overtaken only to have Hockaday get injured. The LB unit has played pretty darn well considering all the fluctuation. Not to mention the back and forth between Colbert and Welch.

And, as I understand it, Welch has been dinged too.

Yes it is. We really need the injuries to slow down a bit. Fortunately most are moderate to minor. Props to the plug and play Lb's.

I think the linebacker group has been the weakest part of the D.
Even so, they have been serviceable.
Hopefully they can keep plugging in various parts week to week to keep it functioning.
A little more weight likely to be shouldered by the D line and secondary.

If the running game is working they will pound the ball during the first half to minimize the offensive time for Indiana. I do not see it being pass happy.

Indiana has been pretty good against the run.
Agreed. I buzzed through the first half of the Indiana vs OSU game and the linebackers come downhill hard. PA should be there and I hope we go to it early.

If Iowa commits to pounding the rock, I expect a lot of 0-2 yard gains in the first half.

Yes it would be incredible to get A healthy full go Mends back around the NW game or so. Would really bolster out LB corps depth!

We are talking about a guy that has 13 career tackles, mostly from special teams. He's been out what seems like forever. I honestly question his effectiveness coming back. I think it would be a hard climb to the starting lineup.

Didn't say starter, but the merry go round that is our LB crew this year could provide some playing time. Never know how it might work.

Interesting off topic note on ACL's...was watching BTN Journey last night and one of the current Indiana WR's has had three ACL tears in his career, can't imagine what he's went through.

I wish Mends well but he never realky broke through. Most poignant example waw 2016 Purdue. They pulled literally every starter early in the second half except Bower. 3rd team players saw action before the starters had to come back in but Mends didn't play. These young LB have high ceilings. They need to gain experience and especially need to be on the field together to mesh as a unit. CB worries me far mors than LB.

Hard to get a good read on this game, but it should be a good battle. Need to get home often with the pass rush and be ready to shoot it out. Hoosiers are looking for their best start since something like 07.

Depth did not effect us too adversely at Indiana today. I'm very impressed with the effort today, on the road, keeping our foot on the gas and stopping 2 likely td drives with interceptions.
