I understand threatening to pull federal funds to schools who participate in this -- I think -- but the legal pathway to forcing this everywhere in society isn't clear.

I'm with them that it doesn't make any sense and is a losing political position. I also don't believe that stuff like this needs to be a federal issue. (regardless your side)
I don't know what the answer is; but I do think the athletes that have to compete should have a say, and there have been a ton of them speaking out. Not just the big headline grabbing ones. Personally it impacts me zero; but I find it fascinating how grown ass men on both sides try to speak for the girls that it impacts. Both sides are trying to silence their opinion.

we often have our 5/6 grade boys & girls basketball teams scrimmage each other and they are relatively fair, although the boys wear the girls down.
although we cannot even attempt scrimmaging the 7/8 graders because of fear of the girls getting hurt, not to mention they'd just get blown out.

Why does playing a girls sport matter so much? If they want to play, im sure they can still play in the boys sport they grew up playing and competing against.

Why do those who support men participating in women's sports, because they feel bad for trans athletes who just want to play sports, completely disregard how the girls feel? Why should a girl be forced to dress next to a male? Some young girls are embarrassed to dress in front of other girls let along a boy. Why should a girl be forced to participate against a male who is obviously physically superior. Why don't the girls get a say? Why has the left made this political? No one who is being honest can actually believe men should participate against women.

Not quite "that" constant. While T IX has obviously been around for a long time, in 2024, the Biden administration issued a rule to the effect that the statute protected gender identity in what was generally regarded as an expansion of the statute. That rule was struck down in early January by a district court in KY (say what you will about that, given the broader construction of the term sex by scotus in the employment t vii context in bostock; I guess we'll see about t ix in skrmetti soon enough).
It's the tendencies of a cult. Idealogy trumps everything. It's fascinating to watch the party that claims to champion women's rights, marginalize women.
