Groshek is obviously a deep fallback option but if he was Wisconsin high school POY at QB, with those pasings stats I doubt he has forgotten how to toss the ball down field.
If it happens, It could present a problem for Nebraska - stack the LOS to stop the run, Badger TE and WRs get single coverage; complete a few passes and they have to adjust. When he takes the snap in passing formation, he is an obvious threat to run. A true dual threat that Mertz is not.

Yeah, this season is nothing but exhibition games, and that is sad, but I'm glad they are trying to play.
I think the biggest challenge for coaches, is likely motivating the players to compete at their highest level week to week, and doing so without fans in the stands. Hard to evaluate the causal relationships of football success or failures in this situation.
But despite it all, it would be nice if the Hawkeyes can win these games anyway.

agreed - televised practice games. Play as many kids as possible. And no need to act like 12 year olds when we lose a close game. take a year off and resume activity in 2021.

Yes, by this standard we should all be locked in our homes for perpetuity, because everything in life is literally "pointless" if there is any risk associated whatsoever. Literally, not making this up, these college athletes are at more risk of dying driving to and from their practice facilities than they are dying of COVID. I am all for precautions and limiting fans in the stands, and for doing everything to protect folks, But for some of you, what is it that you expect people to do for the next 2-3 years while a vaccine is created and distributed?
