for the game on Friday. Here are some talking points....

-They feel that CJ Beathard is more of a game manager, wont do a lot to lose the game or win the game
-They feel they can be aggressive with their pass rush, will get after the QB, and have a good game plan.

Thoughts?

A lot of sports radio guys in Lincoln also like the term game manager, they feel CJB doesn't have an arm to beat them, wont lose the game but wont win, isn't "a weapon" for the offense.

The OP didn't hear any of that.

Everything come from Nebraska thus far about Iowa has been nothing but respectful and that they haven't face a team like Iowa this year. The Nebraska coaches and players have been speaking very highly about Iowa's offense and defense.

The Hawks need to help the skirts win the game. If we play like we have all year we will win.

I am not convinced that the skirts are done finding new ways to lose football games.

Ha, there it is. I also heard they brought in some walk-on they saw on the intramural field and he is starting at corner this week. Heck of a player, who has ties to Iowa (his cousins, gf's brother is on the team) and knows all their plays. He will be calling out the plays from the line of scrimmage. I don't think Iowa has enough to beat them now.

Good stuff...how can we get this to the Husker coaching staff pronto? They need to know that CJB is not a threat to run, and will just manage the game.

OP is hearing voices in his head. His caretaker needs to check the med schedule.

Object of the offense is to drive the ball down field and score points. Iowa does that who cares how they do that. I think the best part of CJ is his ability to read defenses at the line of scrimmage and change the play. He has had success in changing into the right play pretty much making him a coach on the field. I guess that's managing the game.

Do you EVER make a positive comment/post?
I guess my sarcasm didn't come across. All I was saying who cares how Iowa scores they just score, averaging over 30 pts. per game. Iowa's not flashy put doesn't mean they don't have a good offense.

As far as CJ goes, I've said before he reminds me of Brad Banks. I just think his football smarts makes him head and shoulders above most college QBs. He manages the game as much with his head as he does with his athletic ability. I believe he will be drafted into the NFL if he continues to play like he has. Hope that's positive enough for u.

Really? So the clip of Maliek Collins on 93.7 the ticket this morning from yesterdays practice where he called CJB a "game manager" is not what I heard?

I really hope he thinks that. If so, he hasn't been watching much film.

Nebraska has been a turnover machine this year. If we continue to not beat ourselves we will win. Air Tommy has been way too prone to throwing to the other team and he hasn't faced DB's like King and Lomax.

When in doubt... just make stuff up. Typical Hawk

The color guy during the Purdue game said it how many times? I don't remember who it was but he mentioned it multiple times. He essentially has been a game manager much of the year, but he can be with a good running game and dealing with his injuries. No reason to go chucking it deep when you don't need to.

Every Nebraska fan I've heard on the call-in shows in this area is treating this game like it's Christmas. So you Husker fans posting on here clearly don't have a bead on the more-vocal portion of your fanbase.........

Are they confusing him with Rudock?

I like these two as much as anybody. However, whether it is scheme or something else, I'm not sure these guys are as elite as we as a fanbase make them out to be. They are both playing at a high level, no doubt. But I'm not so sure TA avoids throwing in King's direction. If King were playing a lot more press/man coverage, I think we'd really see what he can do - but we cover relatively soft a lot of the time and he allows easy catches in front of him (which is probably a result of scheme than ability). Lomax is a punishing hitter/tackler, however, I feel his game is a lot better in defending the run than the pass.

I'll probably take some heat for this.

I spend many nights taking my son to soccer practices during the fall 20 mi one way. Since I don't go home, I listen to a lot of sports radio at night. I didn't realize that 590 am has Husker football call ins and programming every night of the week for hours and hours. From listening to their fans and hosts, they have had an inflated view of themselves all year. They truly don't think they could ever be a below .500 team. I have also spent two weekends in Omaha when the Huskers have lost games. The town goes to sleep after a loss. I expect Nebby to put up a good fight but their 124th ranked pass defense, turnover margin, and penalties will ultimately do them in.

Wow, anyone who thinks C.J,. is a game manager is a really poor analyst. He is the opposite of a manager, he makes game changing plays every game. Go Hawks!

I have also heard him called a game manager by a sports radio host (sorry, don't remember which program). Struck me as lazy, just describing Iowa football based on what has been said in the past.

Hmmm. Unless "game manager" actually means "play maker."

Unless you talk to the AD. He can suck it.

I cannot think of one quarterback in the country I'd take over CJ. Soon enough the rest of the country will see what we know.

He's our biggest advantage if we win these next two games. And that advantage will rise a lot if we get to a playoff game.

What's the report on their practices; have they been practicing good?

We're healthier than any time this season. Almost every starter is available. Has not happened much, if at all up till now.

New system is finally taking hold. Guys are starting to respond instinctively again.

If Tommy's on, we've got 6 receiving targets that can be hell for any secondary in the country. I think we lead the B1G in passing offense. 3 bruising RB's that keep a Dline on their toes.

You've got a good QB.....very impressed with what I saw of him in the Gophers game. If we can't pressure and contain, it's going to be a long afternoon......but anyone who thinks our record this season is indicative of what you're going to see in Friday in Lincoln, needs to exit the meth lab.

If we're firing on all cylinders you haven't had to stop an offense as explosive as ours this season. And our defense will not give your RB's an opportunity to do much.

Beathard will have to beat us in the air or in scramble mode. Should be a very good game. And not surprising that an 11-0 Iowa team is only favored by 1 point to a 5-6 squad.

Bethard scares the crap out of all of the Husker fans I've talked to. Part of him reminds me of Armstrong: they can improvise when there is nothing there are make a big play. I don't think Bethard has the game breaking threats around him that Tommy has, but his use of TEs is a big strength. Where Bethard is much better than Tommy is his decision making and his taking care of the football. It will be very interesting to see how the quarterbacks influence the flow of the game.
