I know Kirk has to defend his player, but come on. Stanley has NOT had a good season.

"Good football teams find a way to bounce back"

Uh, Kirk, your QB pretty much pissed away a great opportunity to be in the driver seat to win the west. The defense certainly did their part to win the game..........

"I thought he had a good week last week.....he's played pretty well all season. Obviously, today wasn't his best day"

You think? Really?

And, thus, another year that Iowa throws away a chance to win something of meaning......Oh, but, they will probably win next week. And, Nate will look like the second coming.

There is a reason that Iowa is consistently inconsistent and will probably always be.........Frustrating!!

The **** do you think KF is going to say in that situation? Stanley's play today was absolutely a mess, but KF doesn't trash his players for media drivel. This is not new. Get a grip.

It’s a tough one to swallow, but what KF said is right. The kid is s good player that had a rough outing.

Dude, Stanley had a bad game, I guess when you played (if you played) you never had a bad game. We have entirely to many children on this board. LOL

While Stanley did not play well today, his audible would have ended up with a walk in TD by Toren Young if Fant had just executed his route. QB did the right thing, but since Fant was left standing in place, his defender was able to read QB and get the INT. If you are gonna lay blame on Stanley for that, than you should stop trying to evaluate Football. Blame coaches...sure. Should have called TO. Blame Fant...sure, as he needs to be aware of game situation. But on that play, Stanley has Iowa in the endzone and likely up 31-30.

Dude, dont say it would have been a walk-in TD for Young when he over threw him by 3 yards! Why do you think Young didnt catch the ball? It was so far in front of him, it didnt matter if Fant was blocking. It was yet ANOTHER terrible throw by Stanley.

For those that point to the six TD game, yes he is capable of it, and it’s unfortunate we witnessed it. He had to throw six because our run game has been incognito all season. Against average defenses, we can get away with throwing a lot and when he’s in rhythm against average secondaries, Stanley is fine. When he faces good defenses with tight secondaries he tends to be off target often. The offense hasn’t been good all year. They have great aspects during some games this year, but there is no balance and that doesn’t work against good teams. This o line is one of the worst we’ve put on the field in awhile, and our running backs rarely utilize cutback lanes when they do open up. All of that results in beating average and bad teams and losing to the good ones. This year we don’t have many good ones on the schedule so we should still finish with a decent record.

That’s unfortunate. You really should continue. There’s no denying that six TDs was a great game by Stanley. One of the greatest by a qb in the program’s history. It was a product of a glaring weakness on this team, however, and that is the lack of a running game. That’s a weakness that is exposed week in and week out and results in losses against good teams.

Manzel didn't come in last week with over 8 minutes left for 'mop up' duty. They were unhappy with Stanley so they put Manzel in with the FIRST TEAM. That is not mop up. Why they keep sticking with him is beyond me.

Stanley is feast or famine. Feasts on bad defenses, can't do anything against a good D. And yes, Ohio St last year was a BAD defense.

He's just too weak mentally to be a good qb. Seems like he can't shake off a bad pass or drive. Up against a crappy D, with no pass rush and receivers wide open, he looks great. Starts to face a little adversity or gets knocked in the mouth, and it just seems like it screws with his confidence.

Lol, I knew I was going to draw out all of the Stanley apologists.......you guys continue to be apologists. Listen, I am not saying he is a bad football player. His game vs O State last year was epic. I was really high on him last year AND going into this season I was excited about him. However, he just isn't very consistent. Honestly, he should have been yanked today.......he couldn't make the most basic of passes. We actually ran the ball fairly well and even a little bit of a passing game would have probably won the game. You all can be content with mediocrity......However, I see nothing wrong with wanting more as a fan......a Big 10 championship......or, a national championship........The bottom line is that in this game, there were two safeties, fumbles, a pick 6 and they should have done what they needed to do to move the ball in the red zone and left Happy Valley with a W..........

does anyone else not think the weather had a little to do with his play this week and last. Didn't see Mcsorley putting throws on the money every time either. Yes it sucks we lost. Yes Nate struggled but he is our best option and he will go down as one of th best QBs in Hawkeye history.

Didn't Stanley throw for like six touchdowns a couple weeks ago? LOL. Stop expecting him to become Brady every week. He's a second-year college quarterback

Nobody is even close to expecting him to be Brady. But, expecting him to be able to execute a basic pass 20 yards in with a little pressure the majority of the time isn't too much to ask. Winning today's game with 2 safeties, a pick 6 and nice day by Sargent isn't too much to ask......or is it?

Weather was a factor but the guy missed WIDE OPEN receivers/TE all game. He was simply terrible. The thing is we don't know if Stanley is our best option because we will never see Mansell play meaningful time without an injury. Any mediocre performance at QB wins that game for us today.

Not expecting him to trash him........was expecting him to yank him at a minimum early in the second half......if not for a series or two.......

Yes, sometimes he is.......however, when the heat is on, he has issues.......inconsistency. That's my point........

Stanley's play was complete garbage today, but it's a big overreaction to say he's terrible.
He's just not all that.

And, c'mon, would anybody expect KF to jump all over Stanley? Of course not. I wouldn't have a problem if he was a little firmer in his criticism of his play, but he said about what you'd think he'd say.

My brothers mentally challenged sister in law calls timeout in that situation. But mostly I blame the coaches, They can call a TO too,

Really can’t argue with any of this. Just making basic throws to receivers wide open probably wins this game

It's pretty glaring when Brian greise comments that he is missing receivers on middle school throws. This kid has the worst accuracy of any QB since Jake C. He is devoid of having any touch or much pocket presence either. I wish Manzel would practice better.

I would like to see more Mansell. A lot more. But that has always been an issue with KF, not playing the backups much. Not sure BF can change him of that....

Peyton is a player. I see more of a Drew Tate style of player in him, which I would love to see. He would definitely change the defensive philosophy for the opposing coaches... This is of course from the 2 plays I have seen him run all year and the considerable amount of adult beverages I have had since about 3:05pm today...

He is a pseudo-prostyle QB. He has some wheels to him. Not just a pocket passer... Why not mix it up..? Would a series here and there really do that much to Stanley's confidence???

You do realize how bad Indiana and Minnesota are, right? Anyone can put points up on them.

Those calling Stanley "inconsistent" are being really nice. His performance against Penn St was simply the worst QB performance I've seen since the Jefferson Bates/Corby Smith days. Iowa did not need a QB rock-star to win that game; they needed a game manager who could hit wide-open receivers and not make stupid mistakes.

However, I can't blame the loss on Stanley, because as someone mentioned above, it's the coaching staff's job to recognize when their QB doesn't have it. The fact that we were still in position to win that game was amazing, and a tribute to our defense. Leave it to our coaches to screw that up big-time. Everyone I was watching the game with was shouting "call a timeout!" I seriously think that we have the only coaching staff in the country that doesn't call a timeout from the sideline in that situation (2:30 to play, 2 TO left, 1st and goal ready to take the lead, the QB and offense obviously confused big-time as a hostile crowd is shouting). The Ferentz boys have absolutely no defense for that one.

Your right Kirk has class in that department If he has a problem with a player's performance he chastise behind closed doors not to the media

Stanley has the potential to be good but he’s not good. He has had more bad and average games than good games.

They put up 135 yards rushing against one if the best teams in the conference. Grow up.

Stanley reminds me a little bit like Vandenberg Jr year. Vandy had a good statistical Jr year, put up 6 TDS vs Indiana. He feasted against poor defenses, but couldn't complete passes vs MSU, PSU type defenses. We saw what happened the next year when Vandy had less weapons, worse OL, and KF/Davis offense predictability--one of the worst offenses in Iowa history.

Stanley seems like quality person, has good arm, accurate most of the time. Maybe he is a NFL prospect or maybe he gets the yips too easily when pressured and things go poorly. This PSU debacle has to have hurt his draft status. I tend to be in camp that if a player is playing that poorly, you bench him for a series or two. If his psyche is so weak he can't handle a benching then that just confirms what we saw on the field.
