Great idea and for many uses other than police interactions. My guess is the video/recording would be able to be used more frequently against the person being pulled over than the cop. But, in the few times where a cop may lie, very valuable.

With the Shortcuts app, an iPhone application available with iOS 12, users are able to create multi-step routines that Siri executes when they say a specific phrase. One iPhone user decided to use the app’s capabilities to create a shortcut, dubbed “Police,” that allows iPhone owners to take certain actions discreetly before engaging with law enforcement.

Robert Petersen, a Reddit user, developed the shortcut as a means of completing a series of actions on an iPhone using a preset routine.

When an iPhone user says, “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over,” the multi-step process executes. According to a report by the Daily Mail, the shortcut program then sends a text to a designated contact with the user’s location information, pauses any music that is playing, sets the device to “Do Not Disturb” mode, and begins recording video with the front-facing camera.

Since the shortcut operates on a voice command, users can initiate the sequence quickly and without having to dig around for or pick up their device, ensuring discretion and that their physical actions are limited.

Once the iPhone user stops the recording, a copy of the video is texted or emailed to a designated contact as well as saved to an iCloud Drive or Dropbox account.

Petersen also stated that the shortcut he created could be customized and modified. For example, he says it could potentially be adjusted to live-stream video on a specific platform instead of just recording video.

Other Reddit users also highlighted that the shortcut could be useful in other scenarios, such as during any kind of confrontation.

“That’s one of the great things about Shortcuts: Anyone can edit a shortcut someone else has made to suit their specific needs,” Petersen stated.
