High school Indian mascots changing?

Looks like I missed that one. After some googling, it looks like the change happened a long time ago when Sigourney school district merged with Keota so not related to current events.
Some people used to call me a rebel and it had nothing to do with the confederacy.
Probably more aware than some others. I remember a high school team called the Warriors that pushed a new logo with a Roman warrior. If the fans go along with the change, then why can't people, Native Americans etc, who don't wan't the nickname associated with Native Americans? That's the point isn't it? To not appropriate Native American names, associations, etc. Or demeaning words.

You do understand that the idiot Swofford drug his feet on the TV network so his son could continue to show it on Raycom until he ran that thing into the ground, right? Let me repeat that; A conferences commissioner let his conference lose out on money so that someone he was related to could benefit from it.
Of course schools outside of North Carolina complain about that stuff. It costs their school revenue they would never get back because of a conferences commissioner who still runs things like a good old boys network and thinks basketball is what pays the bills.
Yes. And we don’t have a mascot (for football and most sports anyways, we do have a horse mascot for basketball), we have a symbol of inspiration. And he’s treated as such, no bumbling goofy mascot €*%+.

And we don’t have a “Tomahawk Chop”, that’s what the Braves, Chiefs and others do when they stole our “Warchant”.

And for anyone who thinks the FSU Warchant isn’t honoring the actual Seminoles, here’s an actual Seminole Tribe Warchant which is not too dissimilar (obviously ours is more simplified).
And yes, the Florida Seminole Nation and the related Muccosukee Nation are very happy with us. They provide all of the costuming which is detailed, hand beaded outfits created new each year for not only Osceola but the Marching Chief’s head drum majors as well plus the homecoming court. The Oklahoma Seminoles have an issue with us but that’s really more of an extension of their animosity with the Florida Seminoles and to a lesser extent the Miccosukee. The Florida Seminole tribe is literally one of the wealthiest group of people in the country with revenues generating more than a million dollars per person in the tribe while the Oklahoma Seminoles are one of the poorest (last time I looked it up the average American household was something like $67k in revenue and the Oklahoma Seminoles it was only $37k while the Florida Seminoles were $950k per household on average). And the Florida Seminoles are unwilling to support the Oklahoma Seminoles by transporting their wealth to their less fortunate cousins. FSU does have relationships with things like free scholarships for Oklahoma Seminoles but we’re not as tight with them as the incredibly wealthy Seminole nations.
Essentially the Seminole and Miccosukee Nations fought three wars against the United States and those who surrendered were carted off to Oklahoma while those who stayed and fought until the US essentially gave up are the “Unconquered” tribes we honor. And the benefit for their descendants are lavish casino resorts in and near Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Tampa plus some of the richest farmlands, mineral resources and Everglades Ecotourism sites and services in Florida while those who surrendered have dust bowl lands in Oklahoma and tiny, terrible casinos in bumble-eff America along the border of Arkansas.

When I was a kid Native American sports mascots actually led me to research Native Americans and learn more about them. Good thing we are completely scrubbing them from sports so kids growing up today won't give two fvcks about them.
Heck every town named Pocahontas probably has the Indian as their mascot suppose they will need to change.
I’ll defer to the Native Americans to make the call on that. Pasty white guys really have no skin in the game.

"Everyone was pretty upset (about the change)," Lance Wetzel said. "Everyone understood the name change we were all on board with that. Once they weren't going to use the logo, it was hard. It takes away from the Native Americans. When I see that logo, I take pride in it. You look at the depiction of the Redskins logo and it’s of a true Native American. I always felt it was representing my people. That's not gone"

Over the past few years, the Washington Redskins have brought in Blackfeet tribal hand drum, Blackfeet singers and shared that imagery with the fans.

I wish they could change the name and keep the logo, but I’m sure they are worried that in 10 years they’d just have to change the logo anyway so might as well just remove all Native American imagery now and get it over with.
