Hilton Magic

This is setting up nicely, another home loss or two for ISU this year, then we finish the job of killing Hilton Magic with a blow out win there in Dec.

I can't wait to see what post game celebration Monte comes up with for the game at West Virginia now.

Hilton Magic isn't real, and it has never actually existed. It was conceived by a delusional writer for the DM Rag-ister and sold to a hungry Cyclone fanbase who wanted, more than anything else in the world, to be relevant.

They have an awesome home court environment (just wish Carver was that loud) and win most of their games there......kind of like dozens upon dozens of other NCAA schools do.

It's an extremely overused phrase, but obviously a good one for the school's image, which is why it upsets some of the posters on this board. Hilton Magic actually disappeared about 20 years ago.....when ISU started having good basketball teams.

The term was coined partly because of the atmosphere, which truly can be amazing, but mostly because the team couldn't beat anybody on the road but could beat everybody at home. Johnny Orr's teams were totally different at home.

Have they ever been investigated by Roger Goodell for pumping noise in? ;) Hate to give them any props, but when they're down at home all it takes is one three pointer and the place can really go nuts. Didn't help last night but have seen it waaaaayy too many times for my tastes!

LC is correct. It started because Johnny Orr's teams were terrible on the road. Still somewhat true.

Exactly. At times I wished we could copy that. They could be losing by 25 and someone drops a bomb and you'd think they're on a 15-2 run. That place can out-loud Carver on many nights.
