Hitler's People vs Trump's People

Sweet, it's available at the library so I placed a hold. I read a book on the occult and the Nazis this last year and it does remind me of some of the mysticism that is around today.

Speaking of cults, Cultish by Amanda Montell is an interesting read. She's a linguist and the book is essentially about the how cults use language on their targets and in their cult community.

That sounds worth checking out. I see she has a newer book out, as well.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has often wondered how the ordinary people of Germany could have let Hitler come to power. How does that happen?

A few decades ago I read Len Deighton's Winter. A spectacular historical novel covering the period from 1900 to the Nuremberg trials. Lots of interesting characters, many real, but the main ones are 2 brothers who end up on opposite sides. The slow, nearly imperceptible drift of so many Germans toward Nazism was scarily believable. I've been reminded of it over the last decade.

Many will recognize Deighton as one of the best espionage novelist of our time, along with Le Carre and a couple of others. Author of The Ipcress File and the brilliant Game, Set, Match trilogy.
