Hmmm…11 of the 12 playoff teams were very aggressive in the portal last year, the other had top 20 recruiting classes, us? Neither.

You're wrong. Our system necessitates a 7-5 floor. WE WILL run the rock -- whether it be 3.7 ypc or 4.2. WE WILL give them a steady dose of punter. And WE WILL make the opposition face the long field without mistakes.

The portal is a fad. Kirk Ferentz is FOREVER.

And how did FSU do this year with their recruiting and transfer class?
Has Iowa hired a GM yet? For those that aren't aware this is a new position (when it comes to CFB) that is outside/above the recruiting department. They are more like an NFL GM and work with the coaches, collectives, agents, etc. to put together an entire team from prep recruiting to retention to the portal.

As I said this is a new position, in response to NIL and the portal, and I don't think everyone has gone this direction yet (my guess it's still less than 50%). I assume a part of what's holding many back is as simple as trying to identify individuals qualified for the position as it's never been done this way in CFB. However, I have a feeling every school will have one within 5 years and besides the HC they will be the most important employee in a program.

I ask because, from what I understand, a big part of the push for GMs (next to dealing with the financial part of roster management) is maintaining team culture...with all the moving parts moving fast you need someone focused on it 24/7/365...so the FSUs and aTms don't become the norm.

Tyler Barnes now has the title GM/ Chief of Staff. Unfortunately, he is Kirk's son-in-law, so his qualifications are up for debate due to... past hiring and promotion decisions by KF.

That seems a bit short sighted...this is anything but a throw away position... potentially as important as a HC

Embrace irrelevance and mediocrity and blame it on lack of adapting. Blockbuster video failed to adapt once upon a time and you know what happened to them. We’re teetering on becoming the Blockbuster Video of college football.
Dumb comparison. Blockbuster dominated the video rental industry for a decade or more. Iowa has never seen that level of success.

Iowa was well ahead of the curve with this position and coordinating it with nil, etc.

Tyler Barnes has been excellent in his role. Hiring family members is questionable but if they succeed, hard to argue with. Much different case than BF

How much money you throwing out there?

I'm just as frustrated we aren't on that level but we missed on some of our big NIL guys. Like it or not it's a developmental program, always has.

Please list me the schools that have benefited from NIL that are not traditional powers?
