Anyone else looking forward to this? IMHO, hockey went from the worst “all star” format of the biggest five major leagues, to the best. The Six Nations rugby tournament is fantastic, and this has potential to be a bit like that. International hockey is fantastic, and the NHL finally isn’t getting in its own way. It was stupid to keep NHL guys from the last Olympics, as it was the best tournament in the Winter Olympics. Now there’s another tournament that can serve as off year build-up, and grow interest in NHL players. Rosters just dropped today…

I’m super excited about it tbh! My only reservation is that it’s hard to have a tournament of nations in hockey and not include Russia. But I understand why Russia has to be excluded. I think the USA has a great shot with their goal tending. Canada has the best squad but the weakest goal tending.

I think this will be pretty solid. I do kind of wish they'd have a Russian team and an "international" team of the leftover countries.
Russia made their own bed with the jagoff leadership. They’re welcome once they’re done being a pariah state. I do agree a “rest of the world” team is intriguing, considering my other favorite international team is Denmark, and three Danes helped Team Europe to a runner-up finish at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey (the NHL’s last foray into an international tournament). However, six teams would need to be two groups of three with two group stage games and a final. The four team round robin format is more drama (as any FIFA World Cup fan can attest to). And all four being actual national teams gives it more authenticity.

I caught a little of this story but hadn’t looked into the details. My first thought is, ‘yeah, I’ll watch’.

Nope. And I’m a hockey guy.

Btw what in the actual **** was Canada doing not choosing Tom Wilson or Logan Thompson?

Curious to see what happens Saturday night. Have been texting my Canadian relatives on WhatsApp and my cousin in Calgary said...

'Just wish I was going to that Canada-US game so I could stand on my seat and boo as loud as possible during their song. It’s the least we could do to a neighbour that completely turns on us for no reason and wants to cripple our economy, and talks about making us part of their country simply to get access to all our natural resources. Eff that!!'

If that was any indication they have some work to do on their own song.

The only good thing about this stupidity from our POTUS: A potentially spicy inaugural edition of this tournament.

On a side note, I’d like to see the NHL implement the 3/2/1/0 points system. It has never made any sense to me that if an NHL game goes to OT then it’s worth 3 points total but if it’s decided in regulation then it’s only worth 2 points. Every game should be worth the same number of points and I think they’re doing it the right way in this tournament.

Finland skating hard and sinning all the 50/50 pucks. Could be a long annoying night for the US.

That said, I suspect the fins may get tired by the end. Skating that hard is rare for 3 full periods. Hoping America can pull away as the game wears on. In any case, this is ****ing awesome.

Fins are scrappy. Been a fun game so far. Can talent beat grit?

Also picked the wrong Tkachuk for any time goal scorer. So far.
