of the time with two seven footers in the game and PSU scores 65% of their points at the rim. The backcourt guys can't be expected to cover corner threes and the paint too.

Garza is playing at an unbelievable level with Toussaint coming on. Wieskamp has to become more aggressive with his talent and not wait for the game to come to him. I can't about the team's total effort though.

Not nearly as bad as last year. With CJF and Joe T in the game we are much better. Cordell, Ryan, and Luka are still victims, but we aren’t the free pass to the hoop we have been.

Lack of bench also contributed.
This. When you have a limited bench, especially among guards, you have to play a zone primarily to protect your players. We only have 5 fully healthy players right now.

Current non-injured players:
Joe Toussaint
Conner McCaffery
Bakari Evelyn
Joe Wieskamp
Luka Garza

Injured but playing/trying to play:
CJ Fredrick (ankle)
Riley Till (eye infection?)
Cordell Pemsl (back)
Ryan Kriener (knee)

Iowa is on life support.

edit: I will add this:
Players who started the season but got injured/sick and are unable to play the rest of the year:
Jordan Bohannon
Patrick McCaffery
Jack Nunge

My stupid DVR stopped after 2 hours and I missed the last 7-8 minutes. Did Kriener miss much after he hit his knee? I thought he came back pretty quickly, but maybe not.

When you're only able to play 7 players you play a zone

The purpose of the zone is to keep the ball from getting inside.

also, protect players in foul trouble and conserve energy. Considering our major depth issues plu the extreme humidity of the arena, clearly Fran was trying to protect the players. You could tell they were running on fumes late.

I don't mind us playing zone but the staff needs to take a good look at our zone principles. We over rotate and we don't get the depth needed on our backside. Also a big key to a zone is communication and it seems we lack in that area some games. Our zone is better with CJF in it too and with him out saturday that hurt.

We get beat off the dribble constantly, there really isn’t another choice.

Actually the guards can play man just fine.

Garza struggles to defend on the perimeter and if we play man opposing coaches will put him in a pick and roll every time down court.

Its better to let him save energy/fouls and play zone.
