We’ll be taking in the parade tonight and enjoying the environment of Iowa City. Kids stuff to do tomorrow so I’ll be dvr’ing the game and watching late afternoon.

There have been some classic, memorable Homecoming games in the KF era (Purdue '02, Michigan '03, Michigan '09), but more often than not it's just another game in the grand scheme of the football season.
Maryland became the Homecoming game by default this year, being the only October home game, but it fits the model rather well. For the most part the school chooses a game for their homecoming that you'd expect to have nice weather (early Oct is ideal), expect to win (want alumni having a good experience) and is not expected to be a hot ticket, as the game will automatically be at least a near-sellout simply from demand of various alumni organizations. If you look at Iowa's homecoming history, you'll find a lot of games against Indiana, Illinois and Northwestern.
While I personally enjoy Homecoming festivities every year, it's understandable that it's not a big topic of conversation on a message board like this, where a vast majority are only interested in the game itself.

I went to the Homecoming parade five years ago for the first time in 20 years. With all due respect, I'll never make that mistake again. Outside of the Hawkeye Marching Band passing by, it was...again, IMHO...just embarrassing. Not many floats. Lots of politicians and businesses driving cars with little if any decoration. But if that's your thing, have fun.

Band sucks and waste of $$.
Bed races are old after 50 years if they still do them.
City is awful... they really need that Freshman group to grow up fast.

In this week's podcast with Tyler kluver and Drake kulick they said homecoming meant nothing to them as players and most years they didn't know it was homecoming.
I kind of like it that way.
Too bad West High and Liberty High don’t play this year, but I understand why as it could have former teammates going against each other. If they do play this year I missed it.

That, too, would be a bloodbath. Liberty has some talent but they still don't have a senior class. Liberty played City and actually had the lead late in the 3rd but I think City had 3 guys rush for over 100 yards and won comfortably in the end.
Plus, there is some bad blood between West and Liberty on the football side right now. If they play next year it will be chippy I am sure.
