hope the Hawks don't waste the Murray twins' talent this year

One of the most frustrating things about last year was having the NPOTY and not really having any memorable results to show for it. I fear the same could happen this year where we'll look back and wonder why the team didn't accomplish more with the Murray twins. I get that part if the issue when teams like Iowa get a national talenr every so often is the supporting talent drops off meaningfully. It would just be sad to have a potential NPOTY with second round exit two years in a row. Hope I'm wrong

I’m just really having a tough time being as concerned about this team as a lot of posters here evidently are. Most here prior to the season were expecting losses to both Purdue and Illinois (two really good teams) and many thought we’d lose to Virginia as well. If we can take down Iowa State on Thursday, a 2-2 stretch against three ranked teams and a road game against an ACC team would be a rousing success as far as I’m concerned

I understand that there are concerns with minute distribution and Fran’s in-game coaching decisions. The in-game coaching decisions have left many scratching heads for Fran’s entire tenure, so don’t expect that to change. But we’ve seen minute distribution evolve greatly over the course of the season. Fran is learning what he’s got to work with, and the combinations which will give Iowa the best chance to win. I would expect those allocations to continue to evolve as the season unfolds and Iowa to be a salty team. I haven’t seen anything to suggest that the Hawks won’t be .500 or better in Big Ten play and a fringe or better tournament team

It's the Iowa Athletics Way to waste talent and opportunities.

We don't suck, but we never fully realize the potential or some fluky bullsh** knocks us out.

Not making the Sweet 16 last year was a failure.

Zero Sweet 16 appearances in the 21st century has become an albatross for the program.

Completely get the frustration of not taking advantage of players line Garza, and now Keegan Murray, to have success in NCAA tournament, which is how basketball programs are judged.

You're not wrong, but I think this team has more potential than that even.

Iowa has two really unique players in the Murrays that if used properly could lead to more success than we've seen in a long time.

This team has more potential than last years IMO but the potential is a lot further away from being maximized.

I agree completely. It’s also easy to forget that Iowa lost three starters and their sixth man off of last year’s team (which had pretty much all played together for 2-3 years) and that nobody knew how this team would gel or which rotations would be most effective against top competition.

Things are starting to become a bit clearer as to how this team will succeed and what its identity is, but we still need to have some patience when it comes to things like minute optimization and rotations

Its kinda early to be bitching about Iowa "not taking advantage of Keegan Murray to have success in the NCAA tournament", don't you think?

Maybe....but.....maybe it’s a good time to set your best starting 5 and that would be with the Twins in the floor to start the game. It’s not really close....they BOTH need to start with Tony and Joe....not even close. I love all the guys and they all bring something different but when we tip off, we are not lining up with our best lineup.

There were early posts bitching about the Football offense not scoring much vs colorado state and Kent state and relying too much on turnovers to score.

O-2 and getting mauled on the boards seems like something that may warrant concern. At least this team is young and should improve.

I’ll believe a Fran team in the Sweet 16 when it actually happens. If it somehow occurs this season, I’ll own up to the error in my pessimism (followed Iowa basketball for 53 years)

I'm a little surprised Fran doesn't start/play the Murrays at the same time more often, I guess it looks like he is starting to. I do hope he sticks with his typical starting lineup that includes JBo tonight simply for the fact I am sure the crow reaction at Hilton will be glorious during his intro LOL. You have to admit if you were a fan of the opposing rival team you would not like JBo. Plus I really think our team does much better against a team with JBo and one Murray than one with two Murrays and no JBo. Should be a good one I hope, we have not done well recently but this ISU team looks much better. We will see and good luck!

Hes a wacky dude.

He pretty much has the starters and subs flipped from where it should be besides Keegan.

Iowas real team doesn't get on the floor for the first eight to ten minutes.

Why was Keegan on the bench for looonnnggg stretches of the game with Illinois? I was thinking that his ankle was bothering him, but he played quite well when he did get back in the game (7-8 minutes left in the second half?). He should be in the game somewhere around 32 minutes per game.

Start 2 blacks at home, 3 on the road and 4 when you're behind.
I know I know but it's true.

I really doubt we are special in this way.
Lol...........Go do a review of the history of our non-national title winning athletics (plus football).

We are Charlie Brown, but with a crowd of people who came to watch us finally kick that football because someone said we were actually gonna kick it this time....................

Some fans may have been spoiled by having the NPOTY on the team the past couple of years. I can remember when Garza struggled in a few games when he was young as well.

I look forward to the youngsters on this team battling, hustling, and improving.

Murray twins on the court for 53 minutes. Combined 6-23 (1-9 from 3), 13 boards, 2 assts, 5 steals, 4 blocks, 6 fouls, 2 TO's. A total of 13 points.

Blocks and steals very good, rebounds good as well. Points - ugh.

CMac only played 8 minutes.
