if I’m any other Big Ten team I turn down a invite to NYC to play in that bowl. My god the footing looked awful and the overall attendance looked down.

FYI no Big Ten team wants to go to NYC. Jim Delaney needs to sell the rights to that bowl game and get the Big Ten out of it. I realize he wants the NYC market but regardless of alumni no one is going to watch a bowl game in 20 degree weather

The venue would be fine, but the weather will never allow it to be any kind of attraction. No one outside of the participating teams cared about this matchup.
Not sure about that. It was a good time slot on ESPN with nothing else competing to watch. I got a lot of texts from non Iowa fans that shouldn’t have even known the Hawks were playing this nothing bowl.

I think the venue is cool, but the playing surface has to improve. I means guys were slipping and sliding all over the place. BC players said it was like being on ice. Couldn’t get grip w/cleats or shoes.

They should have something better than that or have the players wear ice shoes next year

I do not pretend to understand all the poltiics, BS, $, etc, that go into making what I consider an idiotic decision for ANYBODY to play a bowl game in New York in late December, other than to observe of course, that sooner or later it all comes down to money.

Money is of course, the linchpin on which all deals ultimately turn.

They can’t say no anymore??

No. It is a deal between the Big Ten and the Bowl.

As a member of the Big Ten each school agreed to that deal.

I mean, in the end, I guess a school could breach the contract but I imagine they would either get kicked out of the league or be a pariah forever.

So, who made money on this disaster of a bowl game? The Yankees maybe?

Just don’t go 7-5 and your team won’t be playing there.

No team and its fans should be punished by having to play in NYC in December. Period. End of debate. Delany wants the NYC market? Let him have it. The Big Ten school presidents ought to stand up and say this makes no sense for their student-athletes and force Delany to buy out the Big Ten's contract with the Pinstripe Bowl. I've always hated the Yankees. Now I hate them even more. Sure, Iowa won, but the game was a disservice to the players and fans. Let the NHL play there instead. Those guys would have the right footwear.

I know that, but no FBS team should have to play on a surface like that. I mean that was bad beyond belief. They would of been better playing in Iowa at -5 degrees at least field turf would of given them some traction

How was Iowa able to miss back in 2007 when they were 6-6?? I thought they turned down a bowl invite.

You would think the Yankees have more money than Green Bay and have a better field. Pretty crappy conditions

I may have used the wrong word when i said venue. What i meant was the whole thing, baseball stadium with no coils, in the middle of winter in the northeast. Who is this game for really? The 4pm cst casual ESPN watcher?

When I opened this thread I thought it was possibly about the Big 10 maybe having a good bowl season...not to hijack but would love to see a 6-2 or 7-1 bowl season....looks like Purdue might make it 2-0

Looked like they had a lot better footing than in the rose bowl!

Guess we just pass on that one too?

That bowl game was on in the random tequila bar in Mexico that I was in, people are watching it

The Pinstripe Bowl is the best run bowl out there and is universally loved by players and teams. Every year you here how well this bowl is put on. The Yankees and the late George Steinbrenner had a vision and it was to be first in class in bowls. Success. The field is made for baseball, Lambeau is made for football and has a huge system of heated coils under the field. Has nothing to do with having more or less money than the Packers.

Well the BC players were saying that it was like playing on ice. Not good when both teams are slipping and sliding all game long.

Rose bowl didn’t look like Stanford was slipping alot????

Yes, stanford looked WAY more comfortable than us(they should be, its basically their own new years stadium). But, I thought we looked WAY more comfortable than BC tonight.

I'm not big on football played in baseball stadiums at all. The fans that choose to go yo the game have a lot of trap seats as the stadium is not situated to the field.

DLine really brought it in the 2nd half. Excellent job by them, Phil Parker and BF. 2nd half score = 17-3.

Refs missed an obvious block in the back against Gervase on that one long catch and run in the 2nd half. Otherwise - Bupkis!

I mean, I agree, but is anyone honestly going to a game like the Pinstripe thinking they’ll have the perfect football viewing experience? Seems to me you go for the overall experience of watching football in the Bronx.

And hopefully for the fans tonight, to stay warm with a few drinks.

Playing on that kind of surface is a major injury waiting to happen. If I'm draft eligible, I don't risk it.
Lower extremity injuries are actually much less likely to occur on a surface like that. No traction so twisting injuries are almost impossible. Landing on it can't be much fun, but lower speeds probably even that out. There's a lot of reasons not to like this bowl venue, but injury risk isn't one of them, in my opinion.

They should pay to have a field heating system installed if they want to play football games in December there. I don't think it increased injury risks at all (you could make an argument for decreasing it) but it certainly led to sloppier play. You could tell it just slowed the game down as players had to be sure of their footing.
