How bad is our 2020 class?

I always thought our facilities were hurting us in recruiting top talent but now not sure what is holding us back.
We once again struck out on every top target.
Prohm nailed two of his top three targets.
If we could just have landed the two legacy targets,Carton and X, the whole program would be jazzed.
This class could bury Fran.

If there is any solace, it’s that PMaC, Toussaint, and CJF look like a good freshman class. If we land Josh O—we at least get an athletic big that other Power 5 teams also wanted.

We got to do better in 2021. Need an impact player or two.

Star ratings not great. I actually think this is an average class for Iowa. I like it better than most. The Twins will be be solid starting/ rotational players. I actually think Ulis is going to be a very solid player/ PG. Perkins seems to be a tweener to me, that currently I don't think is going to make it. But 3/4 pretty decent players. No can't miss studs, but I don't think Foster was a can't miss player. I think the murray twins have the potential to outperform him over 4 years, although Foster has the higher potential for the pros being a 7 footer.

Fans like this are the biggest problem for our long dying basketball program. No passion or expectations whatsoever.

What kool-aid bruno, I am more than willing to stand by my assessments. What are your assessments. What do you generally think about the murray twins? For the type of game we will likely be playing in the next 4 years of more positionless basketball, and they have the athleticism to play they will do very well. So what that it took them an extra year to grow into their bodies and grew and extra year. They will come in more polished this year than most freshman and even Foster for that matter. Then the fact that I like Ulis, there are several on here that like Ulis. I stated clearly I don't think Perkins will makes it, I hope he surprises me. Even still I see this as a solid class foundation. McCaffery will need to find some studs to supplement these players in my mind, and im not sure he can do that.

Actually, ten years in Fran should have had this program on great footing to land Carton and Foster. That is a failure on his part. He's been running the program for 10 years.

Eddie Haskell - by the way what has your passion brought to this program or changed it? Nada, just like mine has.

The twins are sounding like a couple of Dom Uhls. Ulis has potential and Perkins doesn’t excite anyone. Again put down the kool aid.

So it comes down to I think the twins have more potential than you do, and that makes the difference, since it sounds like you like Ulis, glad to know thats the difference. Thanks

It sounds like you think the twins have more potential than the rest of the country per their offer list. Not saying they won't outplay their low ranking but is that what we envisioned in year 10 under Fran? Bringing in recruits that we have to hope outplay their offer sheet and rankings?

I like Fran and appreciate that he pulled Iowa out of the abyss but this class, as far as offers/rankings, is a new low for him at Iowa. That’s simply not acceptable this far into his tenure.

Its a new low based on rankings, nothing more nothing less, talent wise no one knows how this class will do. Everyone has opinions but actual performance will come in the future. I have long ignored recruiting rankings, although in general more 4 star and 5 star players you will have more hit than misses, but there are still misses in that group and there are hits with no star players or 2 star players we all understand that. What this comes down to is 2021 recruiting class will be very important for Fran. I agree with most he will need to find a couple dynamic players to maintain the current level.

I actually think this current team will be a low seed tournament team. Fran will need that to sell to the next class.

Hard to sugarcoat this class. Hopefully something good happens, but that's going to mean a hell of a lot of over performing by all parties.

I'm in total agreement with you. Everything you've been saying makes sense to me. You're not drinking the kool-aid, others are drinking the Jim Jones kool-aid.

I like the twins. They're still developing and I'm excited to see them on the court. I like the other guys in the class as well. It would have been nice to get the center we wanted but just because we didn't get him, that doesn't make the other guys any worse.

The 2020 class is Lickliter bad. Two unrated recruits and two low three star recruits. Only one with other D1 P5 offers. It's going to be the worst class in the Big Ten.

2 of Lickliter's 3 classes were better than this one.

Better:

2007 (Jeff Peterson, Jarryd Cole, Jake Kelly)
2008 (Devan Bawinkel, Aaron Fuller, Jermain Davis, Andrew Brommer, Anthony Tucker, Matt Gatens)

On par or worse than this one:

2009 (Cully Payne, Devon Archie, Eric May, Brennan Cougill)

Also, Lick had a good class in the bag in 2010 of Marble, McCabe, Brust and Larson before getting canned.

Ridiculous to associate anything with Lickliters time.
I am confident there were at least 100 guys playing ball at the Rec center better than what Lil Lick was.

Hey don't worry guys.... at least the hawks are ahead of Nebraska, Rutgers and Maryland on 247 and ESPN. So got that going for us

Damn.....you guys stink.

It's not a terrible class until April. Very easy for Fran to pick up a grad transfer or JUCO PG to make this class very serviceable.

Hopefully I’m wrong[/QUOTE]

Yes I do think their recruiting rankings are based on what they were last year. Not what they are now. Their games and bodies have drastically grown in the last year. As to what I envisioned for year 10, again I am not big into recruiting rankings, so for me I think Iowa should be able to go to the tournament about every other year and a sweet sixteen every ten years. On that basis Fran has under performed but only slightly. In most years the team has been competitive. If you want to go by stars, the last 3 years have been the most successful recruiting years we have had in sometime.
