8th seed Wisconsin takes down #1 seed Villanova, defending national champions. Oh, the humanity... Spin that, talking heads.

BTW: The officiating was horrible against the Badgers.

AND: Villanova, No. 1 free throw shooting team in the NATION, missed three down the stretch while Wisky, #325, nailed it down at the line.

Well down Wisconsin. Go Big Ten.

PS: Iowa beat Wisconsin in Madison. Villanova couldn't get done on a neutral floor. :)

I agree on the officiating against Wisconsin being horrible.

The amount of contact allowed by Villanova on defense was ridiculous.

BAU, most championship teams get away with this all year every year

What about the 5/12 and 6/11 losses by Rodents and Turtles?? Hope PU pulls through!

Seeding in this tournament has been an absolute joke. Wisconsin isn't an 8, and Minny wasn't a 5. Those should have been reversed and Maryland dropping didnt' surprise me. They've been pretty lackluster all year.

Gotta be a NW fan right now. Nothin' like the BIG takin' down TWO #1 seeds back-to-back. Plenty of time to hate later. ;)

No - if I have to see that actress Julia Louise Dreyfus (spelling?) cheering for NW one more time I'm going to puke.

Puke. That's a funny word. Can I use that?

Yeah, let's see...three teams total have advanced so far and that is why your complaining makes no sense at all.
EXACTLY, so until the games are played it is stupid to say where the b1g stands PERIOD!
If you want to disagree with that....go right ahead

That's not EXACTLY what you said. But if you want to walk back your statement, I get it. So what fans think is now a measure of the strength of the league.

Next.

Killing time before ISU game.

I always love the inevitable pissing contest during the NCAA. "My conference is better than your conference" nonsense.

The only Big 10 team to really surprise anyone is WI today vs Nova. Good for them I guess.

Sparty winning was no real surprise. WI, Purdue, Michigan + NW were higher seeds and were supposed to win 1st round games. Gophers sucked.

So really the conference is about at par so far.

Btw: Beating WI (who beat Nova) doesn't make Iowa better than Nova. Loser mentality.

Finally, if you are desperate for relevance by grasping onto the coattails of the Big Ten, that is also a loser mentality. Iowa has done nothing to help the image of the Big Ten this weekend. Playing in NIT doesn't count.

Time for ISU + Purdue. Enjoy.

And people wonder how I can NEVER pull for Iowa State.

I just read a comment from a Hawk fan on NW thread.

Paraphrasing, "Iowa is still playing and NW is done". That level of ignorance is why I will never cheer for Iowa and feel compelled to post some objective + rational thought on this board.

I'm sure if ISU loses tonight (and its a strong possibility that they will), this board will be bombarded with "Big 10 > Big 12", "78-64", "we beat Purdue but Clowns (your term not mine) cant", and "we are still playing, but ISU is done", and my personal favorite, "thugs..."

Bottom line, ISU has something Iowa is DYING for, "national relevance". Win or lose tonight, they have it.

Enjoy the NIT tomorrow.

If it happened on the NW board, post your crap over there.

You're over here because of your little brother complex and it's pretty obvious.

Iowa beat BOTH ISU and Purdue, so what's your point?

You're right about the comment on the NW board being ignorant. Would you like to review through the dandies ISU fans have posted on here? I didn't think so.

PS--ISU is not relevant nationally.

I think most root for the Big 10 during the tournament based on familiarity with the teams. I do not watch many PAC 12, ACC, SEC teams during the year. I believe there is room for reasonable debate that should the Big Ten advance four teams to round of 16 then Iowa's conference record of 10-8 is more impressive than many had thought.

Any college basketball fan enjoys seeing their team in the NCAA, not sure this should be construed as "desperate for relevance".

Beating Nevada in the Pinstripe bowl is grounds for national relevance. In the nice little run that just came to an abrupt halt, there are two sweet 16's (one had the dirty work already done). It's over & it's oh so sweet. All that claimed relevance is now laying in a pile of dung.

Still stalking anything Iowa related and convincing yourself that Iowa State is somehow relevant at all? Yet you can't even see your own irony.

I'll enjoy the game :D. Enjoy your spanking again next season....

I dont need to convince myself, I just listen to national pundits rave about ISU the last 6 years, and especially the last month or so.

These are the things that make you relevant.

1) 6 straight NCAAs
2) 3 of last 4 conference tournament titles
3) Although it was broken this year, being ranked for 50 or so straight weeks (I forget the actual #)

What is Iowa known for? Your schizophrenic coach.

Tonights game was a blast! Congrats to Purdue, they derserved to win and were the better team. Also congrats to ISU. Great comeback. Another great season. Just a whisker away from another Sweet 16. It was not to be this year. Oh well, the sun will rise again tomorrow.

You can rip ISU all you want, but every Hawk fan would gladly trade places. Our season may be over, but the national PR gained from playing in NCAA (and tonight's game) > "still playing" in the NIT.

I guess opinions will certainly vary on that, but the facts remain.

Prohm has accomplished more in 2 years at ISU than Fran has in 7 at Iowa. Compare the numbers sometime. Please dont say anything about 'Freds guys" because that was not an ideal situation. The future? Who knows? At this point its all a guessing game. I will relish another Big 12 tourney title and another NCAA "run". Before anyone mocks the "run" comment, ask yourself if you would've liked to be in ISU"s position tonight? If you say no, you are lying.

Its late. Goodnight!

Do you always ask and then answer your own questions? What do you want here? Just drop by, get every word in that YOU want and then crawl back into your hole? Nah. That's not how this works.
Your conference is garbage. Your players are felons and we'll actually get a chance to see what kind of coach Prohm is when he has to coach his own recruits next year. You can go on about relevance all night long but you'll still have to live with the reality that we beat your butts this year. Sweet dreams.

Sure we'd prefer the NCAAs, but you take what you can get. And for a freshmen and sophomore dominated team that wasn't even supposed to finish above .500, the NIT is pretty good. Especially considering we beat Purdue and Wisconsin this year.

You guys were 0-2 against the lousy B1G, including a butt whoopin' by Iowa... and you had 4 senior starters (all Fred's guys).

Not sure what you guys will do next year, but I'm guessing not much. Should be a dropoff. As for Iowa, I'm stoked for the next few years.

How pathetic is your life that you feel compelled to come to the opponents message board before during and after your game.

Congrats on a decent little run the last few years in the Jayhawk conference. Back to irrelevance for you.

Lol, ok. Iowa did what ISU just accomplished two years in a row. One & done. From the hole that Iowa dug out of in some dark years, I can assure you that Iowa fans would much rather be in a position they're in - playing in the greatest conference on the planet - than spend their days bragging about juco transfers, grasping to a golden boy & his last recruits (who CHOSE to leave his alma mater) and self proclaimed national relevance.

The tourney titles? In a ten team league that is on the brink of total collapse if 1-2 powers decide to up & leave. That continues to fade when it comes to college basketball's biggest stage (football as well). That is consistently behind in revenue.

Sorry, while it is the NIT, a sold out Carver means fans are excited about whats in store. Today? Iowa watched two teams compete that they beat this season. Iowa fans wanted to trade places today? Some years maybe, but tonight wasn't one of them. 6 seniors on their way out versus 1.

The begging for approval from ISU over the years fell short. It just didn't quite make enough noise to move the meter on this end. I will enjoy today and the improvement of our young team. Tune in to see the future of basketball in this state because it's now Iowa's time.
