How many of you would run for office?

I would rather drink turpentine and piss on a brush fire (I know, easy quote to name, just figured it fit well here)

It is a sad story that the public encourages both parties to bring up dirt on candidates.

That being said, people with no qualifications outside of running for office and losing (Bird), should be mocked

My past is pretty squeaky clean so that wouldn't be an issue. It would be the Public and not knowing what the hell I'm doing that would make me pass on the opportunity

City or state level, hell no. I would 100% run for US senate or the HOR. 175k a year and I'd be better at my job than 90% of those idiots. Talk about a stress free job, absolutely no accountability.

I would have pre-Trump. I'm don't think I would now. Even school board meetings are becoming contentious.

I don't think people need to be squeaky clean. In fact, I hope they are not. Everyone has ups and downs in life. I want someone that relate to common person problems, not an elitist

Anybody at a Director level or above at a financial institution is qualified from an abilities perspective to play politics, they've done it every day to get to that point in their careers. They all make too much money though for there to be any incentive to risk jail time for corruption or however you want to put it to make money in politics.

Nah.

My masters in public admin/ political science and professional experience working with local governments and agencies would make me pretty well qualified. BUT... I wouldn't want to put my family and friends through that kind of scrutiny/ magnifying glass (and nowadays, potential physical harm). It's gotten to where you almost have to be a slimeball who doesn't care about any of that, to run for office.

I'll keep helping make things better in my own way.

I feel like the pool of political candidates due to the media is killing us. As an old guy there is no way I could ever run for office. For the past 30 plus years I haven't done much stupid crap.. Not that I did stuff I feel guilty about, but some could be twisted to make me look bad. I would never potentially embarrass my family. Both political parties dig into candidates past to make them look bad, I feel that is the reason we get nothing but crap candidates. In today's world people are guilty as soon as the media puts something out.
You know what's worse than potential candidates not running because of the media? It's worse that sleaze bags who don't care about scandal are running, and even getting elected. For quite awhile, it's been style over substance. It doesn't seem to matter if the style is good or bad, kind of like professional wrestling.

You don't have to make those mistakes to emphasize with them. That's just called being a human being.

I am currently serving my 4th term as Mayor of a rural Iowa town. I can't be the only elected official on this board.
