not that last play, probably, but he was leading with his head all day. Definitely targeted our RB in the first quarter

With due respect, you don't understand the rule.

Unless an player is defenseless (which a RB is not, unless he is catching a pass), so long as you don't lead with the crown of the helmet, it is not targeting.

I will agree that I would rather see Brown (#6) tackle slightly differently, but the couple of plays you are referring to, the was contact from the side of his helmet, not the crown.

Best of luck the rest of the way.

If you lead with the crown of your helmet and hit the other player in the side of the helmet I don’t think it matters if the player is defenseless. #6 clearly does that at the 7:20 mark of the first quarter. Not saying it cost us the game, but that guys going to hurt somebody or himself. I think they actually said he seemed woozy after hitting wirfs. Even though his hit on wirfs seemed legal, it wasn’t a smart play at all

Targeting or not, that dude is CTE waiting to happen if he keeps that up. I do think he was concussed after hitting Wirfs, and it was 100% initiated by him.

Super way to guarantee yourself a debilitating neurological disorder within a few decades.

Why do announcers hate penalties so much? When Griese said it would have been a shame to give us another play with a penalty was he saying he was glad ref didn’t call it, or it would have been a shame for PSU to make such a boneheaded play? Again, I don’t think it was a penalty. And earlier the announcer said the best penalty is waiving it off saying “no foul”. Where does this attitude come from that if a player commits a penalty in a crucial situation that it’s somehow “the ref deciding the game” by calling said penalty? The whole applauding swallowing the whistle is a strange phenomenon

Does the B1G review plays that weren't called? That #6 for PSU better not play next week. He had 3 helmet to helmet targeting plays. The first one on our RB should have sent him packing,

Probably because they were cold and wanted to get the hell out of the booth after the game going almost 4 hours thanks to commercial breaks. I mean for god sake ESPN had to go split screen for a period of time to show the kickoff of the next game. Honestly - the press box at Beaver Stadium is woefully obsolete and the hvac conditions aren't exactly the best which is why they were likely happy to wrap the game up as quickly as possible.

Our previous week against Maryland was comical. I remember looking at the scoreboard in the second quarter and there were around 5 min left and it was only noon. They completely evened out the second half with tons of tv time outs.

Agreed (and I don't think these are smart tackles) but the couple of questionable plays I saw, he hit the runner (not a defenseless player) with the side of his helmet, not the crown.

Anyway, as you say, you don't want to initiate helmet contact if you can at all help it, but I don't these should have been penalties.

Good luck the rest of the way.
