We are only losing Kriener off of this years team, grad wise. And we maybe oversigned for the incoming class this fall?

Right now I wish we had the Murray twins already here. We could definitely use there size, and 3 pt shooting now.

Lots of unknowns for the current team players as well.

I am still not convinced Pemsl doesnt try to grad transfer somewhere.

In Men's basketball, you can have 13 on scholarship. @Suterman or anyone else, correct me if I am wrong, but going into next season we CURRENTLY have 15 on scholarship and have to get down to 13.

5 Freshmen
6'11" C Josh Ogundele
6'4" G Tony Perkins
6'2" G Ahron Ulis
6'8" F Keegan Murray
6'8" F Kris Murray

3 Sophomores
6'4" SG CJ Fredrick
6'6" SF Patrick McCaffery
5'10" PG Joe Toussaint

3 Juniors
6'5" SG Joe Wieskamp
6'5" SG Connor McCaffery
6'9" F Jack Nunge

4 Seniors
6'10" C Luke Garza
6'8" SF Cordell Pemsl
6'6" Riley Till
6'0" PG Jordan Bohannon

I'm guessing here, but I doubt that Till will be on scholarship next year if he doesn't opt to leave after he graduates in May and I would put Pemsl in that same boat. Could they stay, probably but with so many players we have a Fran's disposal, I hardly think they will see much playing time. Otherwise I'd say only 2 in Garza and Bohannon.

Fran, your count is right. As for who might transfer out it.s anybody's guess. I think Till graduates and if he stays, he can go back to walk-on status, and with Cordells injury history he may be ready to transfer or hang up his sneakers. It's possible that Conner may be able to go back to walk on status since that's where he started but I really don't know. Also guessing that Patrick will apply and get a medical redshirt year.

thanks

i was not sure if this issue (of getting from 15 to 13) had been discussed yet.

i guess there have to be reasons that we don't know about on why Fran is bringing in 5 kids for the 2020 class

Patrick and/or Connor will go the walkon route if needed. Not to worry.
I'm not sure if Patrick can go to a walk on status, since he was on scholly already. At this point I'm not convinced he'll even be able to play in college. The team needs him desperately now, and they can't get him physically ready. He's been in remission for like 5 years, and have certainly been preparing for this year for sometime, and yet here we are. I wouldn't be counting on him at this point unfortunately.

Yes, Doug McDermott went to walk on status to allow Grant Gibbs play his last (and 6th) year at Creighton.

There's this thing called Google...

Well, it's always possible that JBo grad transfers and Garza wins the Wooden and goes to the NBA...

I think we will look at a PF type player this spring yet too. Maybe grad transfer route. I’m guessing Pemsl will leave and Nunge will be coming off ACL injury. Should target a 4 to compliment Garza next year.

Cordells injury history he may be ready to transfer or hang up his sneakers.
I predict the latter. Just don't see a ton of fire in him out there this year, that would lead me to believe he would want the hassle of transferring out just to ride the pine at another program.

I gotta believe Garza has to go to NBA.... probably weizy too. Garza is the closest comparison to Chris Street I’ve seen. Once in a generation player. Ogundele, I’ve heard may be injured. So prob as a big, will be a possible red shirt. We need a shooter and another big.

The consensus here seems to be that Luka isn't athletic enough to EVER play in the league, so its unlikely he would be a first round draft pick. He'll most likely make a good living in Europe like his uncle. Weezy needs another year to fine tune his game, and work on his body. He looks like he's lost about 10 pounds.....

Bakari and Kriener gone for sure.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Pemsl either transfers or just gives up basketball. He has been injured and not nearly as effective. Would LOVE to get a grad transfer/JUCO 4 for next year

I predict Pemsil, Weesecamp, Garzuh, and Til go pro. Also Kreener and Evalin but they will be out of eligibility anyways. Conor will choose baseball. Frederick, the other McCafrey kid, and Jordon will never fully recover to their previous playing abilities, and Tousant will see the attrition and bolt for a blue blood.

Shermin or Kurt will take over as head coach after daddy mac loses interest with his boys being out, and they will lead a rambunctious gang of rag tag walk ons after holding open tryouts following a 121-34 blowout loss to Nobody State Technical College's B team.

They will go on to finish 37-1. Many movies will be made about them.

The NCAA has changed the rules since Doug was in college. If you start on scholarship, the school has to honor it for 4 years. So players cannot be Creaned... That's a good thing.

That noted, it does not mention players voluntarily giving up their scholarship. So PMac may be able to drop his scholarship. Prossibly.

Smart ass answer is Iowa will have 13 available. Scholarship ‘renewal’ is automatic, it is assumed.

13,14,15 players available to Fran leads to a lot of bench to for the starters. It will be a better team but a down year for the Hawks.

Yes it is. Do a little more research. Power 5 conferences approved guaranteed scholarships in 2015. Not surprising, the SEC voted against it.

This is not an NCAA rule. Other conferences can join on their own doing.

Once granted, at the beginning of the student athletes career, a scholarship cannot be revoked. Exceptions are made for non-athletic reasons. Of course. Such as ethics and grades.

A walk-on receiving a scholarship is not guaranteed.

Not certain on a player voluntarily giving up a scholarship and still playing(eg.PMac), but you will have to find that on your own time.

Not.a.requirement. Read what I linked, it is from the NCAA, not you.
Quotes from the current NCAA text:
"Division I schools may provide student-athletes with multiyear scholarships."
And
"If a school plans to reduce or not renew a student-athlete’s aid, the school must notify the student-athlete in writing by July 1 and provide an opportunity to appeal. In most cases, coaches decide who receives a scholarship, the scholarship amount and whether it will be renewed. "

You may be correct. If the consensus says Garza isn’t good enough......well, I’ve always been a rebel, so I’ll have to respectfully disagree with the consensus.
You may be right on both payers, and if that’s the way it plays out, I guess, we’ll lose the seniors + Conner to his baseball scholarship, gain the commitments, and the remainder will give you the answer.
And hungry hawk, you may be correct, although your post was intended to be frivolous (it wasn’t funny). On the spelling, all you had to do was scroll up on the thread....

Oh and there is no way Till will have a scholarship next year

One word...no

Till is on a one year scholarship per the original press release...so we were fine until JBO redshirt.

That said, one of Fran’s sons can go without a scholarship for a year.....assuming everyone returns and they need the scholarship.

Till is not a full ride - he gets a scholarship when there is one available.

At this stage, you also have to wonder if PMac's body is going to allow him to play in the future

From the sounds of it....I'd say we are probably taking 2 in the class...Obvious needs would be Center and a Forward

Laughed thinking about Till going pro.
