Was actually pretty good back in 2008.....I was 18, didn't have a care. Working for peanuts, not a dime to spare, but I was lean and solid every....like a rock.
I was living in Iowa City, in college, and partied entirely too much. Wasn't the worst time of my life, wasn't the best. Glad I got all those student loans paid off years ago.
It was the economic downturn that allowed me to buy lots and lots of reasonably priced stock market equities at a time when we were paying off a home loan and some if our daughters' college debt.
But it was also somewhat stressful because businesses were closing and there were some pretty sizeable layoffs.

Things that happened that year catapulted me financially, resulted in a marriage that is now going on 15 years, and gave me children.
TBH, 2008 was fine financially. On the hand we talked seriously about buying a 2nd home in Florida but never got around to it. My only regret.
I remember visiting a friend in Ft. Myers, Florida around that time and looking at starter level homes that were selling for like $70-80k. Stuff that’s going for like $400k today. My friend, who was retired and probably had the means, was convinced he’d make a fortune if he bought a bunch of them and rented them out.
Started my current job and bought Tradition Manor in 2008.
