How will 2021 play out in CFB post pandemic?

In 2019, a newbie roared into the College Football Playoff and pulled in the title.

Only 11 teams have made the CFP, since 2014. We all have heard the clamoring for expansion!

LSU went unranked in 2020, after Joe Burrow was drafted #1.

Will LSU climb out of proverbial ditch the Tigers seem to ebb and flow from over the years under various coaches?

Michigan is a program ranked 40th right now by ESPN FPI. They finished 48th for the season, sadly canceling it when they were scheduled late to face Iowa for the Week 9 game.

Michigan likely will be improved out of the gate in 2021, but what about some of the Top programs heading into 2021?

I wrote previously about how ESPN FPI loves the Big 12, especially Top 4 Oklahoma, Iowa State and four others. My regrets in advance, to those with weak gag reflex.

PFF College doesn't bring the same love for Iowa State entering 2021, like FPI, Athlon Sports and Lindy's, which apparently has hit the newsstands this past week!

FPI has Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, North Carolina, LSU, TCU, Texas Tech, Miami-FL, Mississippi West Virginia and Virginia Tech in their Top 30. All improved out of the gate compared to their ratings at season's end in 2020.

Six Big 12 teams are all better out of the gate. All ahead of #22 Iowa according to FPI.

Texas Tech with the highest jump from 70th to 21st heading into 2021. Wow!

Athlon Sports has the Red Raiders a 5-7 program and 9th in Big 12 for 2021. The Red Raiders open with 3 non-P5 programs in the non conference before the Big 12 opener at #12 Texas. 🤔

Some teams are significantly better right out of the gate for 2021. Look at the Big 12, so no wonder the boost given to ISU at #4 in the land.

For example, Iowa State is better than last year's Georgia or last year's Notre Dame team, which hammered them in the previous season

Most FCS programs played this spring.

So, will we see a better track record against FBS programs in 2021 for FCS programs?

Nebraska and Northwestern are the only B1G West programs facing FCS opponents in 2021. Indiana plays Idaho after Iowa game, while Iowa State opens in Ames against UNI. Last meeting went to overtime you may recall.

2021 should be a very interest reboot to the CyHawk series. Hopefully, like the 1977 reboot, Iowa beats B1G in Kinnick, then takes down an Iowa State team coming off another 8-3 record.
