Neubauer left two years of eligibility on the table. Not sure it ever came out exactly why he left.

My recollection is he didn’t like school and left to go back to farming. Could be wrong about farming part but pretty sure he didn’t like school

That's what I recall. He loved playing football but really didn't like being a college student. Nothing wrong with that and I hope he is doing well today.

Ol' Doodle had a neighbor growing up in CB. All he ever wanted to be was a farmer like his uncle and some other family members. Sometime in late elementary or middle school, his family moved to Treynor and he eventually became an All-State defensive lineman. Had a full-ride to Nebby on the table back in the late 80s when they were still in their salad days.

He turned it down and skipped college. Passed on college ball. Vacated his chance (slight though it may have been) for pro ball. He chose what he loved. Never looked back. Never second-guessed the decision.

You have to respect someone who knows what they want and sticks to their plan, even when it's not the path many (if not most) of us would choose if we found ourselves in the same circumstances.

Wasn't Neubauer from Iowa Falls?

If I recall correctly, Neubauer has diabetes? He had trouble managing his diabetes and still performing to that high level. That is one of the reasons he called it quits.

I have been watching games on youtube for the past week- it has been pretty fun to do. There have been a few players who made some huge plays and contributions that I personally forgot. Tyler Luebke, Edgar Cervantes are two others. Forgot how big of a recruiting get Jermelle Lewis was (they talked on commentary during game highlights) forgot how good Mo Brown, CJ Jones, and Solomon were. Drew Tate was super fun too watch, Nathan Chandler was the uggliest good QB I have ever seen, Razor Ramon's legend should never die, Nate Kaeding got in the face of DL (GOAT), and holy shit we blocked a ton of kicks/punts in the early 2000's. Also believe that 2004 was the best offensive coaching job in a long time- definitely overachieved in 2003 too. That being said those two defenses were DAMN good. If we stopped at even #6 on this list and had Schnoor.......what could have been
2004 Running back situation
1) Shonn Greene fails to qualify out of high school
2) Fred Russell leaves early for the NFL, goes undrafted
3) Lewis tears other ACL
4) Albert Young tears ACL misses second full season.
5) Marques Simmons misses several games with a high ankle sprain
6) Marcus Schnoor tears ACL
7) Champ Davis misses final four games of 2004 due to injury

We also decided to burn Damian Sims redshirt halfway through the season as well when that wasn't part of the plan as he was clearly still undersized (similar to Greg Garmon in 2012), and then he got dinged a bit too IIRC and only had a handful of carries down the stretch.
