Florida had a tourney this weekend called summer of states or something like that. It doesnt surprise me but are we that dumb or are we dumbing down wrestling?

If there are multiple States involved, it makes perfect sense. If not, it doesn't.

And he won a state championship at Franklin Regional in 2014 (and 15 and 16).

So it's settled if we ever want consistency. Because we use the term nationals pretty regularly, states can similarly be used regularly. He went to nationals and won a national title, just like he went to states and won a state title.

Nationals is used in the context of more than one has been held.
It is the NCAA National Championships.
States is plural meaning more than one state.

I always use the plural - nationals, states, playoffs, Olympics, etc. I think, because there are multiple individual championships (or competitions) contested. The Super Bowl, World Series, and Stanley Cup are singular because each is a single contest.

I will have to refer to what jvclark and tailgate tom said before I am willing to concur with what you are trying to imply. As a side note track meets are run concurrently. Wrestling meets are done concurrently.

New Jersey calls it states?
