HWC Banquet Last night

If you were not able to attend this is what you would have learned--

1. Club President Tim Grissel works his tail off putting this event together--others help but he carries the load and puts on a first class,top notch,gold medal banquet. It take hours and hours of planning etc. Thank this man if you see him!

2.Dan Dennis is a cool cat-- a smile,humble, took many pictures with kids and adults. He is as relaxed as they come.

3. Brent Metcalf was there and always a big hit with the fans and Hawkeye supporters-- He has a Dan Dennis/Rio tee shirt on-- about as classy of a guy as there is. His relationship with Grizzly Coolers is awesome-- some of the prizes they provided are top notch. Please support them if you have a chance!

4. Matt McDonough-- Mike Evans-- The Dardanes twins-- In the house, Dardanes arrived the night before--they dont even have any Hawkeye gear yet--that will change soon.

5. Alex Marinelli -- check. Moving to Iowa in next couple weeks-- the fans getting to know him already. Not going to be long and everyone will recognize who he is.

Coach Brands in his talk announced that Nathan Burak was staying in Iowa City and will be working out with the HWC. Right after the event-- Terry Brands--Matt M -- Coach Berhow took off driving 12 hrs to Texas to coach our guys.

If you have never been to one of these--try to attend next year-- there were tables,and tables and tables of silent auction items--really cool stuff.In addition some great live auction items--- a great meal and best of all you get to interact with our coaches and as Tom said--the best fans on the planet!

Was held at Kirkwood Hotel-- approx 300 attendees

I bet the coaches will be dragging by days end in Dallas after a 12 hour car ride after an evening banquet. They must have pulled in at weigh-ins. Yikes.

They weren't able to leave until at least 9 pm. What were the final figures Novak? I would guess last night brought in more than last year. These events are ran very well and always a great time.

I'm making plans as we speak for next year. Hoping that there is more wrestling items at Fry Fest this year also. Did get the 1910-2010 overall Iowa wrestling history poster, that bad boy is framed and in my bar where it belongs. Gave the HWC history one to my Dad, been an Iowa fan since Gable took over. Glad to hear about Burak!
