Not looking forward to watching our PG walk the ball up the court like my great grandma but if a defense oriented approach wins games then I guess it’s for the best.

Well I, for one, am not going to miss watching the Hawks score 80+ and still semi-routinely lose solidly by double digits.

But if it results in more winning, I will stand it.
Good defensive rebounding requires good defense
Walking the ball up the court and slowing down the game once in a while during the game is a good strategy but take fast break points when there is an advantage

I didn't realize that we announced who we were hiring and they are planning on WALKING the ball up the court every possession.

That sure was fun beating mediocre B1G teams in January while always losing in March.
Iowa State has a great game plan- they are fast-paced and play smother defense. You don't get playing time unless you play D. Players understand and love this.
I'm going to miss our interior players futilely trying to close on a corner three, thus giving up an uncontested three AND rebounding position.
Im gonna miss "Fran drawing up GREAT inbound plays", when his team is down 18.
The one thing I'll miss are the inbounds plays. Give the man credit, he could draw up some great plays that always seemed to work.
Things I won't miss:
1. Not boxing out
2. Not calling TOs when the other team is on a run
3. Scoring 94 points, but losing by double digits
4. No hands up on defense, and slow close outs on 3 point shooters
5. Not properly hedging on screen and rolls

An up tempo offense was not a good fit for the majority of athletes that Fran has recruited during his tenure.
Totally agree with your comments. I hated watching the no defense no rebounding running up and down the court out of control about half of the time. JMO

Iowa may not hire someone who walks the ball up the floor (and I think they'd be well advised not to).
But it's almost a certainty that there will be a down tick in tempo. And that's something many fans will miss.

I’m not going to miss pedestrian basketball players that no one has ever heard of having career offensive games against the Hawks almost every week.
It's not an either/or situation. You can get upcourt quickly and still run a thorough offense. Take the fast break points if they're there but don't spaz out to get a shot off with 15 seconds left on the clock. Also if the coach is DeVries, his Drake teams consistently averaged 75 ppg which is just outside the top third in the nation. Not Lickliter's winning score of 43.

They could play much better D and still keep a pace of play offensive tempo aiming for around 70 points per game.

Well the two coaches most talked about have very slow tempos, including the slowest this year. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Iowa’s tempo will be on the slower side if either of the two most talked likely replacements is hired.
Not necessarily. BMs teams at NW Mo St routinely avg'd about 80 ppg. He's on record multiple times stating that the slower tempo this year is by design/out of necessity given their personnel. Imagine that.....a coach who can adjust his gameplans and strategies based on the personnel he has. What a great idea!
Then be prepared to either get your checkbook out or be prepared to lose. Doing things like everyone else with less resources will always lead to losing.

I’m not going to miss consistently starting 4 white guys that can’t defend my grandma. At least, I hope we don’t see that nonsense anymore. I wouldn’t care if we never offered a white guy again unless they are a Flagg level 5 star. All the rest are mediocre at best. Leave the white dudes to swim meets and Dungeons & Dragons.
This is kinda dumb. I think the best player in all of college BB this year is a white kid.
All else being equal, yeah, I'd prefer uptempo, but I'm far more concerned with results in the W/L column.

Wisconsin has an up tempo offense now and they just missed another sweet 16 they used to frequent after giving up 91 tonight.
