2002 Iowa team would run all day against this team , remember this team isn't nearly as stout against the run and the 2002 Iowa OL might be the best in team history, then there is Bob Sanders , made many a TE develop alligator arms real fast . Never forget His hit on the Michigan TE running the seam route, guys helmet popped straight up in the air about 10 feet . Think Fant could handle hits all day from Bob? I like this team but Dallas Clark would abuse the LBs and the 2002 DL would eat up this OL.. Then there is Brad Banks dual threat, just too much for this young team to take. JMO .

I don't disagree ... but also remember how young our secondary was in '02. Also, while Steen and Barr were great Hawks ... they were only used to practicing against only one Dallas Clark. Also, I loved Bob Sanders ... but his coverage skills were suspect up until later in the '02 season ... even he had areas where he had to improve his game.

I think that the '18 passing game could torch the '02 D.

But you're right ... the '02 squad would be able to run on the '18 squad.

I’ve seen both teams. I feel like you haven’t.

I’ve already given you the statistics on the defenses. The 18 defense give up far less yards per game and less points per game.

Their run defenses are almost identical with only a few yards per game separation. The pass defense for the 18 team is far better than the 02 team.

These are facts. You should really do some research before spouting off.

Are we at a level yet where we could be competitive if we got matched up against a SEC team in a bowl game?

I see flashes of that kind of play. And, I have been seeing more and more of it over the last three weeks. The nice thing, is the both sides of the ball seem to be getting more consistent, keep improving and getting more confident. If they can continue improving this week and stay healthy (by the time we travel to PSU and Purdue), if we can win both of those games, there is no argument that we can play with the best in the country, including Michigan and OSU. If we can get to Indy 11-1, Katie bar the doors.

We got a damn good team boyz. I really think this is an elite level team. I believe we can play with anybody. This might be the best defense we’ve ever fielded. I hope we get those few bounces and find ourselves in the B1G championship game. Could be a really special season!

Elite defense? Yep.
Elite team? We would need to finish in the top 10. Still within reach as 10-3 got us an 8th ranking in 2003 iirc.
