I do wonder

I obviously can’t explain why but they were playing with a swagger in the BTT. There was none of that today. They looked nervous as hell. Looks like the tourney atmosphere got to them. They were also tired. I’ve never seen an entire team walk back to the huddle like that before the media timeout. It was crazy.
agreed, it was like someone had flipped a switch and the team we saw today was a shell of the team we saw this past month...the sad part of it is that its not like Richmond was red hot/shooting lights out.

Richmond didn't play very well, the Hawks just managed to have their worst game all season and it still wasn't out of hand if they could have made a couple shots down the stretch.

Teenage/20-something athletes are in excellent physical shape. Are they tired? Maybe. Is it an excuse? Shouldn't be. Three days of rest ( I doubt practices were too strenuous) should have them ready to play. Plus, this team is deep. The whole dang team can't be that tired. As was mentioned, Richmond played four games in four days also. If they are that tired, then don't shoot 29 3's and get to the paint more.

Part of it was refs were letting them play; Richmond noticed it and played much more physical, Iowa didn’t adjust to it very well. Murray twins aren’t going to hammer their opponents on defense, but could have gotten away with a lot more yesterday with the way it was being called.

And yet, they still won.
So what?

The question was did playing thursday-Sunday effect the shooting.

I don't think it did, I think Iowa was nervous from all the attention and probably also expected to walk over Richmond.

But Richmond also playing Thursday-Sunday and also shooting like crap doesn't weaken the 4 games in 4 days poor shooting narrative it only adds to it. Both teams shot like shit but thats normal for Richmond not Iowa.

Richmond has a much better pg than Iowa and thats why they won. Just like last year.

Thank God Fran stuck with the same guy.

Still not buying the fatigue factor. Again in the entire BTT only Keegan logged over 30 minutes in any one game. ( 40 vs. PU )Our deep bench was a liability yesterday instead of lift. 3-16, 0-10 from 3. What else is there to say. We won when 8 - 9 guys contribute and yesterday we had 2 guys that had a c or b grade...

Is this just something your friend says it does he know somebody connected with the program?
It wouldn't surprise me. Look at our guys. I think strength for basketball is overrated. Conditioning is obviously important but weights meh unless you are a banger down low and even then the game keeps changing in regards to what is allowed physical wise.

Kevin Durant probably can't even bench press 155 pounds.

Nah. They were rewarding Richmond's aggressiveness on both sides of the ball. Refs typically don't reward both teams when it comes to that kind of thing, because then you either get a game with lots of fouls that takes forever....or a game where they let them play and it gets chippy and everyone complains about the lack of calls.

Simply choosing the team they think is being more aggressive is an easy out for them.

Certainly a host of factors played into a classic trap game: 1) mentally and physically the Hawks weren't fresh, that was very clear. Sure Richmond wasn't either, but it's a bit of an equalizer. Plus they also fly under the radar so less time commitments for interviews/pressure of being dark horse pick/etc., 2) new ball, for a team that relies on perimeter shooting, it played a role in at least their confidence shooting the ball (whether imagined or not), 3) shooting backdrop and ice floor not ideal. None of these are excuses, but when you add them all up, it's not a surprise to see the shooting performance yesterday.

Richmond is a team if the Hawks could have built any sort of sizeable lead, they'd have won going away, but they couldn't get any rhythm due to a mixture of shots not falling and strategy by Richmond. Richmond was able to dictate tempo and force us to squeak sneakers for 30 seconds on defense, which often didn't happen (unsurprisingly).

Exactly. How do you explain Sandfort going 4 for 4 on Sunday and Ofer on Thursday. What did he play like 6 to 8 minutes? Joe didn't play much and he played like ass as well. Not the composure I'd expect from a junior.

Exactly. We had guys that didn't log many minutes who didn't step up either.

All I’m saying is Iowa wasn’t more “tired” from playing4 games in 4 days than Richmond was playing 4 games in 4 days.

They are kids, they should be able to handle it. Most of them grew up playing 3+ games a game in tournaments.

“Trap Game?.” There is no such thing as a trap game in the NCAA Tournament. If you can’t get mentally and physically ready to play in the tournament, maybe you don’t belong. Less media commitments, new ball, shooting backdrop,, floor, etc. sounds like excuses to me. How about one team was ready to play and one wasn’t and one staff had a better plan than the other?
